Description

The FOIL love continues… here we have another Jeindel machine from the company’s Gavil line. Again the armored fixed head design is prevalent. From the perspective of visual design aesthetics this FOIL is a lot more influenced by the notions of Futurism (the art movment with ties to Cubism) than anything. There are a lot of intersecting sweeps and curves, mostly on the head and torso, all flowing in implied movement a familiar Futurist approach. With the historic backdrop of a foggy past riddled with artifacts and philosophies of design not always remembered from the source the stories setting is visually rich and textured. As I continue to post more FOIL designs these little visual touches will be more and more apparent.

This machine has some history to it and is clearly seen a fair share of combat. I must say I had fun with this fella, worked on him between other gigs and such :) The pilot is one of the secondary characters, a young woman named Kyello March. The FOIL’s name is Mauti. It’s a CAV (Cavelry) FOIL so it does carry a sword but for the sake of the illo I omitted it to focus the attention on the FOIL’s design. There’s a good amount of markings on the machine and text, some in Greek letters and Latin, some English.

One the headcase it says: Ordo Ab Chao in Greek letters. For you conspiracy buffs, Latin for Order out of Chaos.

On the neck cowling it says: F.U.S.O. (Foil Use System Operator) Kyello March for the human pilot and Satta Saecai Mauti for the sendai control entity.

On the rear thrust fin it says: Vulne Consortium Olaso Blid Krieg.

On the pelvic torso cowl it says: Jeindel in Greek letters.

A23 is just the tac number for the FOIL.

The little lightning/medusa/mermaid thingie with the sword was put on the machine by Kyello.

Full Wacom digital painting Photoshop 7.0 and Painter 9.

Realized I forgot to add the site URL to the image so I just did ;)
I also should note the base thumbnail rough that spawned this design is on FOIL Thumbs sheet 7 [link] I often begin the process with a small thumbnail to launch off from.

Very nice! I like the colors, too; they give the machine a hierarchal facade.
