CountDownLua

As some of you might know, making a proper countdown skin with rainmeter have been almost impossible (almost, with some thousands upon thousands lines of code you can do it if you really want to). Now we got Lua, and everything has changed!

This is a little skin that uses InputText to change the event and date (leftclick on the time left, you will then get a new little bar on which you change the date). Then that date is thrown to Luas own os.time function that automagically calculates what that date is in seconds. Then just subtracts how many seconds there is now. Voilà! You got the countdown - with leap years and everything!

And that's about it. Enjoy!

I've been using this skin for years and it's excellent. Can I ask though, is there a way to align the text to the right? I want to place this up against the right edge of my desktop and it would look better if everything aligned itself to the right edge. Thanks :)

dd/mm/yy please.

Looks awesome! Love the new Lua language, so many possibilities!
Same, doesn't seem to work anymore.

Also not working for me, same problem (D H M S is all that shows up)...
Any ideas? :/
Yea, it's not working anymore for me either. (My HDD just went up, and I'm running the newest version of Rainmeter.) I really liked the slim and simple approach to this, I'd love to find out how to fix it.
hello,
your skin has been working amazingly until i updated to rainmeter 2.3, all it shows now is D H M S, iv tried setting multiple dates...nothing has worked
i get an error in the log:

Cript: CountDownLua.lua:21:attempt to index glabal 'stringDate' a nil value

pls help, i love this skin and find it essential in meeting any sort of deadlines

Thanks so much for this, its a great timer, but is there a way to run multiple instances of this(i.e. to have two times for two different dates/times)? I have tried copying the skin file and renaming every file and bit of code with "CountDownLua2, and it appears that each is capable of keeping its own time, but only one will have the visual display of counting down. The other doesn't do anything until the individual skin is refreshed, and then the first stops displaying. And ideas on what might be done?

Just copy the entire folder. Then run the two.
Rainmeter can only run one skin from each folder, every skin in the same folder is seen as a 'variant' of the same skin.
So copy the folder and rename the new folder. Good to go!

Thanks, great skin.
I noticed that minute and second variables are ignored in the countdown.

Hah. So it is. Odd. Thanks for reporting!
very nice. Also have to comment that ethics was surprisingly one of the hardest courses I took. Interesting class tho.

Thanks.
Normative Ethics is just one part-course out of 4 I'm reading (the whole course is called Practical philosophy), but I agree that it's kinda hard. Have to separate all kinds of terms and, basically, philosophies.

can the same thing be done to make an efficient calendar?
vonSmallhausen's avatar
Very likely. I have thought about it, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be able to. So yeah, it should be possible.
