Based on the lore of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness, the Miskatonic University expedition was a large, well-organized mission with several specialized components:
Personnel and Pilots
Total Expedition Members: The core land party consisted of 20 men. This included:
4 Professors: Dyer (Geology/Leader), Pabodie (Engineering), Lake (Biology), and Atwood (Physics/Meteorology).
16 Assistants: Comprising 7 graduate students and 9 skilled mechanics.
Pilots: Of the 16 assistants, 12 were qualified aeroplane pilots. Additionally, the expedition's two ships, the Arkham and the Miskatonic, were fully manned by their own crews.
Camp Logistics
Staying Behind: After the initial base camp was established at McMurdo Sound, the group split. Professor Lake led a forward sub-expedition of 12 men (including himself) to investigate new territory, while the remaining 8 men (including Dyer) initially stayed behind at the main base.
Dogs: The expedition brought 55 Alaskan sledge dogs.
