A background I created for another separate illustration depicting the maiden voyage of a steam plane. However overall the landscape behind worked much better on its own, as a landscape study.

It does indeed work well as a landscape study, although to work better on it's own it really would benefit from a focal point, which obviously a background intended purely as a background will lack.

It's be interesting to see the flying machine made into a standalone deviation. :B

Very true, as a result of no focal point it loses a sense of depth a little too.

If I remember correctly the flying machine I drew was the worst part of the image and in general badly painted in Corel. I also painted it on a separate layer above the background, which is never a good idea with corel as it made it look totally detached from the background.

As you say it would be interesting to revisit it, maybe in corel, maybe in 3ds max. I might even add an engines to it this time lol :P.

It is true that the flying machine wasn't one of your stronger images... a redux would be very interesting to see though. :nod:
