Queen Elizabeth I of England Renaissance garment
For more, check out: www.Volto-Nero.com

This is a reconstruction of a garment as worn by Queen Elizabeth I and portrayed by Steven van der Meulen.
My very first Renaissance project and I am fairly happy with how it turned out. There are still some things to do (cover grommets) but it is wearable. All diamond holes are branded in by hand, golden decorative stitching done with the sewing machine, several hundred pearls and other bling. Dress made of velvet, partlet made of silk chiffon and hand beaded. Bodice is boned with spiral steel boning, everything lined with copper colored taffeta.

Lord Eddard Stark Game of Thrones Ned Costume

Lord Eddard Stark

available for commission at: www.Volto-Nero.com

This costume is based on the one Lord Eddard Stark is wearing in HBO's screening of Game of Thrones Season 1 Episode 1. It is made of 100% real leather using only the best material.

Available are the following pieces:

- padded Gambeson with lacing in the front

- Leather doublet

- Long persian faux fur cloak with leather belt and a racoon dog fur (Recycled vintage furs or furs from hunters in Finland, where racoon dogs are endangering native species, only.)

  Ned02 by Volto-Nero-Costumes  Ned03 by Volto-Nero-Costumes  Ned03b by Volto-Nero-Costumes  Ned05 by Volto-Nero-Costumes  Ned06 by Volto-Nero-Costumes  Gambeson02 by Volto-Nero-Costumes

The Gambeson is an elaborate handmade piece, padded linen fabric in a dusty dark blue, aged with fabric dye on edges and shoulder seams. The gambeson is closed using laces in the front.

The doublet made of fine cow leather, comes fully aged and weathered. The doublet is closed with lacings in the front and sides.

The Cloak is made of 6 yards of beautiful black persian fake-fur fabric lined with further 6 yards of black cotton. It closes with the typical cross-belt, made of fine leather. This cloak comes with a recycled vintage fur, most likely from a racoon dog or any other fur that represents the original colors. Please note, since this is a natural product and I am researching vintage furs and furs from Finland hunters only, one is never going to look exactly like the other. I do not support fur farms, so it can possibly take a while until I find the perfect match for your cape.

Everything will be made to your exact measurements and in high quality.

If you have any questions or wishes, please do not hesitate to mail me!

I simply have to share these photos from my shoot with House of Pictures - S. Kohlhagen even though the garment has not been entirely finished, when we did this shoot including some takes for a German regional TV-program. The dress has been inspired by Steven van der Meulen's portrait of Queen Elizabeth I and it is my very first Renaissance costuming project. Many working hours have already gone into this and more will have to follow until it is truly done.

Of course once the costume is entirely finished and all pieces are added, I will take a ton of photos of it with all details and from the inside etc. The bodice and skirt are lined of course, the bodice is also boned with spiral steel boning. The stars on the skirt and sleeves have already been embroidered on the velvet, however all the diamond-pinking has been done by my own two hands and the other embroidery was added by me too. The shoulders, aswell as skirt gathering is backed with padding (though I feel the sleeves could have been a bit more puffy). An embroidered chemise aswell as lots of jewelry is going to be added once I find the time. I had to make this dress wearable for the camera within a very short time, so there was no time to hand sew the eyelets (I was literally working on this until an hour before the shoot) I committed the crime to add small grommets so we could actually lace the bodice for then and am now going to cover them with yarn. Please note: this dress was never intended to be a historically accurate re-creation of the original, but I do believe it turned out well so far.

I have to say your work left me totally speechless! I'd love to make myself a nest in your fabric stock and watch you work your magic (and wow, I didn't mean to be that creepy I think I've fainted. )

It would be very suspicious if you didn't. I once met someone who always remains perfectly calm while working with a sewing machine, well they turned out to be an alien spy!
(You're very welcome!)
