Off Orion

I tried my hand at painting for the first time in many years.  I should do this more often.  Acrylic on canvas, 16"x20".  Painted in about 3 hours at "Let's Paint" in Olympia, WA (which is a fun little place worth checking out, if you're in town).

Yeah, that could definitely go on a sci-fi novel. So instead of having a single ship lost in space with one crew trying not to kill each other, it'd be interesting to see if these three ships can co-operate. My money is on a pessimistic outcome.

As for the painting I have two suggestions since you were working with acrylic... Mix in a matte medium to increase the flow of the paint. You may consider switching from brush application to sponging on those nebula clouds in layers.

Okay make that three things. Try putting a wash over some of those star to dim them and knock them into the background. This will hopefully add more depth to your spacescape.

Would do if I were going to revisit this.  This was a quick one-off thing, though.  It's actually been a long time since I've bought any acrylics, or done any painting at home, sadly.  (I was at a studio across the country when I did this.)

(Really, I need to just photograph this again.  The original on my wall looks better than the photo here.)

I like the old fashioned look of this. like a computer game or sci-fi novel cover.

Thanks!  I'm a big fan of classic sci-fi artwork.
