Okay you gigglers, it's pronounces YOO-ran-us, thank you.
Model is the dashing ~skydancer-stock
Planet made by me (hey Uranus isn't much more than a blue pingpong ball from Earth)
Stars and nebulae from NASA (the Hubble!)

This one is my favorite by far. I do agree that the pictures currently online for Uranus are very generic, you did an awesome job recreating it.

I really like this planets/celestial series; they remind me of some classic paintings on similar topics.

I especially like this one because it shows Uranus as a wizened old man, like a sorcerer. And in his musical suite, Gustav Holst portrayed Uranus as a sorcerer.

Uranus is the father/grandfather/general ancestor of all the gods the planets were named after. Planets also don't have sides as there is no concept of up or down in outer space...and spheres don't have 'sides' anyway.

Very unimaginative indeed....lol, what a silly statement.

I love your work with the planets, these pieces are beautiful and this is one of my favorites.

A really unimaginative planet, save for the fact that it rotates on its side.

I agree. You should make a calendar out of these...erm. The trouble with that being there are 8.5 planets and twelve months... so..maybe some moonandstarsandsun? :giggle:

One of the reasons I really love this series is that they are so quietly majestic I cannot help but hear "The Planets" playing in my head. The strange bit? I saw Uranus, and Mars started playing. That's...not how it's supposed to go... erm. Yah.

Your choice of model totally made this piece. :D

I would love to buy prints of this series. Do you think you would be able to get permission for all the stock you used? Because I doubt I'm the only one who would buy them.

Of course he's old, poor guy...having a name like that would age ANYONE before their time! ;)

(Sorry. Couldn't resist! :P)

I'm going to have to reiterate my original suggestion, Sophie--you simply MUST do some sort of gallery or public showing with this series, when you're all done! Seriously--it's first rate, all the way!!!! I'd try not only local office buildings (the ones with big lobbies who normally are booked up a year in a advance), but funky restaurants and bookstores, as well. And New Age stores--heck, I bet you could SELL these in New Age stores...and maybe a calendar, too?

Brilliant my friend--this series scintillates.
