I think I will have her wear the drills every so and so. Drills for the more villainous side of her, curly hair for the good side. It wouldn't make sense to get rid of her drills, but at the same time, I thought I could make more sense out of using them as a trademark for being a villain, verses for no reason.
Just my opinion, but I like the first one best. They're all great though. I know how tough it is to finally decide on which version of an OC you like the best, especially one as important and dear to you as Estelle.
Her outfit and hair in this one: The Queen that D E N I E S Just... YES! ♥ (I'll call this version A to make things simpler while I explain.) I love the symbolism behind it and she looks so much more peaceful there, somehow. It just seems to scream 'rose maiden' more to me, idk.
But it's more like... I only think she should have her hair like that sometimes, like when she wears it down, and the rest of the time, I liked her the way she was here: The 'Cellshading is hard' picture. (What I'll call version B.) Also liked seeing her expression and demeanor the way it was in version B. I just... I don't know why, but her outfit seemed too strict and rigid for my liking, although it was pretty good, just my taste I guess.
I don't know if it will suit your purposes for the story, but this is just my take on it, and keep in mind this is only my interpretation. She's your character, and an awesome one at that. So I'm sure you'll make the right choices for her, when it's all said and done. But anyway... It kind of seems like she was portrayed as more of a 'villain' in B and 'heroine' in A, so maybe that's why I'm seeing it that way, not sure. For some reason, I get the impression that I want to see her going from version B at first and gradually becoming more like version A over the course of the story, like seeing her transformation and character development and etc. Or maybe she goes from A to B and then eventually back to A... So that's my opinion on these different versions and I hope that helps somehow. <3
Now here's the question: What do you think about the glasses she's wearing in version A? My friend IRL thinks they are a bit out of place, and thinks she should wear something else (but still glasses). I'm a bit iffy on what to do, because I'm trying to symbolize Estelle's eccentricness without going over the top, which is why I gave her the wielding glasses. I think Estelle likes to hide her face while appealing to her inventor culture... and I wanted something a bit out of place of her design.
Seemed like it screamed more "Rosemaiden" to me as well. (Design A)
But still... I love your idea about the hair, I agree. I think Estelle should have that drilled hair some of the time still. It's just so uniquely Estelle. What do you mean by "rigid and strict"? Just wondering. I think that's why I'm creating a new design for Estelle, is because her design became rather unappealing, and I wanted to bring out more steampunk into it.
Very interesting thoughts. I also like that idea. I'll keep that in mind. I'm also planning on drawing her in her inventor clothes... maybe I can incorporate her more dark side into her inventing outfit, so in such part of the story, Estelle becomes so corrupt, she appears in her inventor clothes for most of her queen like activities. I want to make her kind of an odd ball character, without going overboard. <3
I guess it's the shoulder pads and the dress with all the buttons that just looks so stiff and serious to me in that one. I tend to not like 100% seriousness in characters, but it's just my taste, not saying it's always a bad thing. Sometimes it's the only thing that works.
I like that she's eccentric, it's pretty cool. I'm iffy on the glasses. Not a huge fan of them just personally... I sort of like the dark ones better than regular glasses somehow though. If she likes to hide her face, there are other ways it could be done, like with a mask (doesn't have to cover her whole face, could be just a partial) or she could use part of her hair to hide it (I've got several OCs that sort of 'hide behind their hair'). But I guess the other methods could be a little cliche' too. It just depends, I mean the glasses could sort of work for her too. They do make her look more unique but seeing her face is nice too. What's most important is that you are happy with her, after all.
Oh, I just had a random thought! It would go with the steampunk theme too, sort of... What if she had a monocle instead? Then it would be like she had glasses but also didn't, half and half. Although I guess that might not work because it doesn't exactly hide her face. She could have like a dark monocle though, it could be pretty cool. I'm just throwing out ideas, lol.
I think making several different outfits for her is an awesome idea. A lot of work, but if you feel up to it then you should go for it. ^^ That's exactly it. She strikes me as a lovable misunderstood oddball type and I think that's what I love most about her.
Oh, I see. Thanks for explaining. Yeah, I've always thought the shoulder pads were a little odd for her, but back then: there had been limited time for designing, so now I can take all the time I want.
I was also iffy on the glasses, but I figured if they worked with my steampunk outfit, they might work for her... A monocle? I've considered it... hmm... I'll have to see how that works! I mean, I don't want to hide her face completely, so that might work... It might give her the right touch of her inventive self too, if I play my cards right!
Estelle the "odd ball inventor princess"... it's why I love her so much. <3 Nice to hear someone appreciates her as well!
