viva gnome-shell 3.8 theme [update #1]

By vivaeltopo
21 Favourites
This is a Gnome-Shell 3.8 theme I made, based upon the original Adwaita theme and my previous theme for 3.6: [link]

Required Fonts: Raleway, Open Sans

If you want to use the Screenshield and Login screen (the last two screens in the preview), you need to copy the the content of the "gnome-shell" folder in the zip to "/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme".

If you have any problems or remarks for improvement of the theme, just let me know.

The theme is not finished 100%. You can find the latest version here: [link]

update #1:
- added gnome-classic theme (some parts are modified by extensions, which cant be changed by the theme)
- changed OSD keyboard
- new window/notification close icons
- new chat style
- minor tweaks

I'm liking this, only bug so far is the background.png for some reason is centered between my dual monitor setup at the gdm login sreen. It's probably an error on my end, I'll post a fix when I'm so inclined to mess with it.

honestly, I plan to replace it with my own image though.

It's not your fault. I didn't have multimonitors in my mind and the lockscreen/gdm background really wasnt a good idea, looking back. I will remove it soon and replace it by a subtle texture or something.

Try the tweak by ~beanaroo. background-size: cover;

Very stylish theme! thank you so much for all the hard work. looks amazing on my 3.8.1

If it's okay with you, I changed the orange colours to gnome blue aswell as the background for lockDialogGroup... I just can't seem to get the image scaled/stretched... it forces centered and I tried background-size 100% auto but it doesn't take effect.

Any advice? (I do not plan on redistributing)

Glad you like it.
If you wanna change and redistribute it, go ahead, as long you link back to me. :)

I have currently disabled the background image of the lock screen myself and I will probably remove it in the next release.

Thank you! I'll only consider it if there is a demand. I've learnt so much from your code as there are no official resources for theming.

I found that, under lockDialogGroup, I was using lengths and percentages for background-size instead of 'cover'. I'm so proud of my desktop now :D

Your theme is really really nice. Well done.
But could you add a more detailed instruction how to set it up, that it look's like your desktop?
vivaeltopo's avatar
Just copy the content of the zip-file to your ~/.themes folder and apply it using the gnome-tweak-tool.
If you want to use the screen shield and login screen then you have to copy the content of the gnome-shell folder from the zip to /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme.

What icon theme are you using? And what GTK theme do you suggest to apply?
Thank you.
vivaeltopo's avatar
The icon theme is elementary and the GTK theme is greybird ([link]) which is sadly not yet ported to 3.8 yet.

@vivaeltopo: We've just recently fixed the Gtk3.8 menus and from what I heard, the rest should still work.
vivaeltopo's avatar
Yeah, already got it :) Thanks alot! :)

by the way: seems you're using elementary with oxygen as fallback icons (or something like that).

you could try the elementary-xfce icon-theme ([link]) – despite the name it's maintained for all desktops.
i'm usually keeping it synced with elementary-upstream (new folder icons will land soon).
