Titanium leaves

A jewelry set, consisting of a ring, earrings and a pendant, inspired by leaves.  If I had to explain this one, I'd probably say it's morning dew on trees in autumn on some alien planet

The leaves are cut from titanium sheet, and coloured by heat-treatment. Findings and chains are sterling silver. The blue cabouchons are abalone shell.

The ring is cast from silver, with the titanium leaf and cabouchon added.

Titanium is a challenge to work with, but I really like colouring it. There is quite a range of colours that can be achieved, and save for two or three hues, the colour is permanent and no more vulnerable to wear and tear than any other common surface treatment. It's almost impossible to get a consistent result with a torch, as there is always some randomness due to temperature gradients. In a piece like that, I actually liked that.
