No offense, but this is probably a better representation of Lily/Petunia's relationship than James/Lily. Lily never seemed to be the voice of sense and propriety. She was moralistic, yes, but that was because she often had to play defense against Petunia, Snape, and James's bullshit.
Come to think of it, if Lilly and James did survive to raise Harry, they might have been the kind of family who puts the "fun" in dysfunctional. I can see James being a bad influence for Harry and Lilly trying to keep the two of them from doing stupid things, and saying "I told you so." Every time they mess up.
