Steaming Pools by viper007bond Steaming Pools by viper007bond
This is a picture of an algae bed and hot spring in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming that was taken last week on a little trip my family and I took there. I am aware that it's slightly tilted, but I didn't think it was tilted all that much and fankly I'm too lazy to fix a small mistake such as that. I doubt you even noticed it was tilted until I pointed it out. ;)

Made of 6 pictures.

Updated 08.19.2003: Changed the title on the image ( removed ", Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming" ) since I don't believe the pools are actually called the "Steaming Pools". And w00t! Updating finally works! :D

If i do recall i also took a 4 picture panoramic of this same pool at the end of June '03. It is called "Grand Prismatic Spring". A very HOT large humdity spring i might add. very beautiful too. If anyone wants to see mine lemme know.

wow, lots of comments. Really good picture, I could barely notice the tilt even after you mentioning it. It still looks amazing though.

Made from 6 images, so you must be using a tripod... I use a tripod on my panoramics, but the images never line-up togethor - have any idea what i'm doing wrong?

No tripod. :P

Just make sure you overlap them about 1/3 of a picture each time (so only turn 2/3's of a frame) and fully zoomed out panoramas merge easier than zoomed in ones. Start easy. ;)

On my camera, the panorama mode can help you as it shows you how much to overlap. Read your manual and see what your camera can do to help. :)

And have you considered joining ~ panoramia? It's for both fans and makers of panoramas. :)

Nor did I. I am all self-taught like most people. I learned by taking a few family pictures and mostly taking random pictures of stuff, trying different settings and stuff out and remembering what turned out good and waht didn't. Just get a digicam and mess around with it. :)

Well, that's what I call my digital camera. And it was only $230 when I bought it a year ago. So yeah, it's not one of those cheapo portable webcams, but it's not one of those professional ones either. ;)

nice shot...

constructive advice:
I might have tilted the picture so it's more level, and croped it just a little... so the person who's dipping in on the far right edge was not in the picture, but other than that, its perfect.

I didn't really notice the person until last night when I was talking with someone on #photography about how to rotate and crop it in PS. I never did hear how to do it though 'cause I had to head to bed. :(

Wonderful orange colouring under the surface. The whole view is good, though the right hand side catches my attention more. Really nice clear details, well done.

Good work selecting to capture this in a panoramic form. I love the colours. The catwalk to the right provides a nice point of interest, and gives the viewer better depth perception.

Thumbs up.

looks like everything around the blue, steaming pond is boiling hot, like its the relief from the heat... interesting dead trees in the background, i wonder what that's from?

The forest fires of '88 killed a ton of trees in the park. It was like a million acre fire or something like that.
