i'm currently trying to enter a school of visual arts here in France, so i went for some interviews with schools the last few weeks.

according to them i shouldn't have too many troubles entering (well, i'm not that confident haha!), but the thing is, to enter we also need to find a job in a studio or with artists working in visual medias!

so to help, the people i've met told me i should try to send a colourful CV, with illustrations if i can etc.

i had a very simple but great idea for my CV & portfolio but had no idea for the cover letter! though they haven't told me anything about it, i wouldn't want to have a very visual CV and a basic cover letter. especially because that'll be the first thing the hypothetical employers see!

so i thought about this idea, simple as well! i love monsters and i have one i love (Gontran) for a comics project i'll submit in july, so i thought i could make a cover letter using him. and here's the prototype :D

the cover letter will be written inside and they will also find my visit card and maybe one of two bigger illustrated cards to show my arts & contact details.

i just need to move the hands as they're not correctly centered, and i also want the folded lower part to be smaller as the sign is a bit too high.

but otherwise, i'm really happy about it

i think i'll even keep that as my writing paper haha!

tools: A4 bristol paper | pigment liners | PHOTOSHOP.

thank you a lot dear

well it's now my official writing paper that i use to write little words to the people who order me drawings! but it's quite expensive to print it myself so i think i'll surely try to go to a printer and have a whole bunch printed :)

someday, i'll send you a letter with it ;)

I love it! I love how there's a little shadow behind the sign, too!
But doesn't working with Serena count? Or do you have to work locally?
If I were an art school, I'd let you in (that sounded naughtier than intended, sorry).

oh thank you so much!! :tighthug:

well working with Serena counts hugely for me as she's one of my ultimate idols and masters since the first time i've read "GloomCookie" in high school haha! it also counts a lot for american publishers as her works are very successful (by the way, you MUST buy her new book with Disney "Fairest of All", about Snow White's stepmother, it's a masterpiece!!) and she's simply a gifted writer, but unfortunately it doesnt mean we're rich at all haha! Serena also has to work to be able to pay the rent etc. and it's the same for me. but the thing is, it's incredibly long and hard to find jobs as illustrators or comics projects to work on here in France, and having to work so far from art or writing is extremely depressing for me.

i've recently been told that i could have a diploma called 'BTS: visual communication', which you can have by studying visual arts at school for 2 years, while also working part-time with professional artists and studios. you don't earn as much as if you were working full-time with these professionals, but they teach you everything and most of the time, you can be hired directly after you're done with school :D

this is exactly what i was hoping to do when i entered a private art school years ago, meet professionals, work with them, learn thanks to them... and it was the complete opposite :cries:

haha! that's so sweet! don't worry, you can be as naughty as you want with me, i've been a fan of Prince since i'm a very little kid, it sort of made me a total pervert :XD:

oh thank you so much dear!! :tighthug:

i had my first meetings with schools and, despite how stressed i was (i'm INCREDIBLY shy and afraid of everything haha!), i didn't had any real problem to be accepted

but i still need to find an employer as if i don't, i actually can't go to any of the schools (it'd be too expensive) :cries:
