Does this look even? It's not supposed to...
Cool Story, Bro!I must be crazy. On something resembling an impulse, I've launched a webcomic adaptation of the “Cool Story, Bro!” concept from my website. If mediocrity is your scene, check it out.
Cool Story, Bro! on Comic Fury
New ComputerNew computer has been acquired and installed in the bedroom. I shall call it Tedd, and it looks really pretty with purple Aero windows, the Bubbles screen saver, and this artwork by Dan Shive as the wallpaper.
Tedd has a hyperthreaded quad-core i7 CPU at 3.4GHz, and 32GB of RAM, running Windows 7. I look forward to exercising all this processing capability for art and entertainment.
Camera RevivalI may begin using my 3.3 MPix* camera with renewed frequency. Apparently, its battery contacts need periodic cleaning. But I also acquired a 4×D-cell external battery pack for it, for long-lasting power. Now that I don't think I'll be replacing this thing anytime soon, maybe I'll try to develop an ICC profile to take care of the corrections I always seem to be applying.
* I don't know where they get that 3.3 megapixel figure. The largest pictures it takes are 2048x1536. That's 3,145,728 pixels. Or, exactly three binary-million pixels.
The Meaning Of Llamas (rant-ish)So deviantART rolled out this whole Llama Badge thing a couple of weeks ago. I've now received several, mostly from people I've never heard of, who never commented or +fav'd my work. Apparently, each deviant can give a Llama Badge to each other deviant, at most once. Furthermore, this requires confirming one's site password. That's a lot of pressure to think twice before awarding a Llama Badge.
And I don't even know what they're supposed to mean.
Okay, I guess it's a good thing. But how good is it? If they cost nothing to give, are they worth anything? By what criteria should I decide whether to give a Llama Badge?
And then people started trading Llama Badges for other dA commodities, notably Points. And then dA came out with this Points-for-Llamas market thingy, further complicating the matter. I don't know if that makes Llamas more valuable or just cheapens them by taking artistic merit
#roadgeeks Group (now online!)So, I went and filled out the form to create a Group called #roadgeeks. My first choice would have been #roadgeek but apparently there's been a ~roadgeek for about a month now who hasn't done a single thing since creating the account. Annoying, isn't it? Anyway, I know there are a few highway enthusiasts out there on deviantART so there should be a group for that. For that matter, there seems to be a fair amount of incidental roadgeek material from non-roadgeeks which will make for a well-populated Group Favorites section. So, I await the group's birth, and I have a couple of people in mind who will receive invitations to join at that time.
Update: :iconroadgeeks: is online and accepting membership requests!
ObsoleteI just noticed, every single item I listed for "Tools of the Trade" on my front page could be considered "obsolete" in some way. But it's all still useful, at least enough for my purposes.
That said, I want a new camera for my birthday.
P.S. Why do all the "journal skins" options appear to be available now? I don't have time to see if they actually work, but it's odd to see the options...
WatchlistI just went through clearing out all the deviations, journals, notices, etc. in my Message Center. (There were nearly 400 deviations in there...) Some of the items I just went though were months old. I still have to get to the Feedback section, so to all those folks who commented and +fav'd me, you'll get responses soon.
My watchlist is pretty big, but I don't think I'll be dropping anyone. I'll just have to check dA more often.
GenderYou know, I'm just really bad at guessing what people's genders are on deviantART. There have been multiple times when I've assumed someone on my watchlist was a girl, and then I see something that indicates otherwise; and vice versa. To complicate matters, there are at least a couple deviants I watch whom I believe to be transgendered.
Does it matter? Absolutely not. I don't mind the occasional amusing surprise.
Oh yes, and in case it's not already blindingly obvious, I'm a guy inside and out.
Dude, I got a Dell!As a birthday present, and compensation for being his wedding photographer, my dad got me a new Dell PC. It has dual 2.4GHz processors, 3GB of RAM, and a cool Realtek sound card. I'll probably have to get a nice GeForce graphics card later -- I want to be able to play Flight Simulator X -- though it will be interesting to see how well FS 2004 works with the built-in Intel graphics card. Anyway, the new computer runs Windows XP Pro, and I've named it Dexter. I'm still in the process of installing software and customizing the settings, and when I finish expanding the home network, I can copy my old documents over from Niklas, my 2002-built 721Mhz P3 running Windows 98SE.
Warning/Call out Journal - TheChaosRuler (UPDATE5)WARNING: LOTS of swearing and opinions down below. Read at your own risk.
This has gone on for long enough, and I am sick and tired of all of it.
CALL OUT/WARNING JOURNAL AGAINST; TheChaosRuler
Any updates and added information will be provided near the bottom of this journal.
DO NOT ATTACK OR APPROACH HIM. NOT ONLY IS HE NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR EFFORT, BUT IT COULD GET YOU BANNED. MY ADVICE IS JUST AVOID HIM, BLOCK IF NECCESSARY. DO NOT DO ART TRADES/REQUESTS FOR THIS GUY.
It is about fucking time I brought all of this to light. You stopped talking to me and un-watched me, so I can only assume you want nothing else to do with me. I don't have to defend you anymore. We're not friends, and now it's time to warn others so that they don't have to go through the same BULLSHIT you put me and so many other people through.

deviantART on our Lucky 13As you get older, you may begin to see birthdays as a distinctive point in time. A time for reflection on past successes, past roadblocks, past lessons. I also see it as an opportunity to look forward, set goals, aim ridiculously high. I'm sure everyone's heard people joke about disliking getting older and lamenting another year passing, but not me. Not yet, at least. The wisdom and hard lessons I've had to learn over the years helps me map out my immediate future. I may stumble, sure, but I also have a lifetime of overcoming obstacles and analyzing achievements to guide my decisions. All I can do is keep learning and growing.
I feel much the same way about deviantART.
I don't need to tell you that a web property sticking around for 13 years is a rare thing, and it's not an accomplishment we take lightly. We owe our continued existence to all of you, and the passion and inspiration that emanate so naturally from the community, from the most successful professional to the mo
F.A.Q. TIME!!I get quite a few messages here on DA with various questions and requests. I don't have time due to work and family to answer all of them individually like I would like so I think a handy-dandy FAQ is in order. This way maybe I can answer a question before it's even asked and/or have a journal I can easily direct people to. So here we go!
Q: Can you give me any tips on how to draw/color,paint/whatever better?
A: The quick and easy answer is that there aren't any secrets to being able to draw well. I know it's not what people want to hear and everyone is looking for a magic trick that will instantly make them a better artist. The truth is that I have dedicated 1000s of hours to art in an effort to get better. I attended figure drawing classes, went to conventions and spent hours talking to other artists, and spent nearly every dime I had on books and art supplies. I lived it and breathed it. When you were out on a date or playing video games or seeing movies I was probably home d

DeviantArt ECLIPSE ReviewAlright fellas, here we go....my Eclipse review!
First impression: This is bad
But let's just start with this first impression! Eclipse is offered in two designs, dark and light.
I will use the light theme in my review.
Your profile is what represents you on here. With oldDA people used to customize it to their likings, displaying art, icons, stamps - everything they could think of!
Customization is completely gone.
DA lets you add widgets, but they're preconfigured with no way to customize them. The only customization you have is your banner....and oh boy.
(image is displayed in full, not cropped. Had to crop and reassign badly to display the whole size)
HOW HOW HOW
HOW CAN YOU FUCK UP SOMETHING SO SIMPLE?? HOW??
Other websites already do
Using Cross-Figure With Genesis 8Cross-Figure Genesis 3 is a program that allows you to use Genesis 3 Female hair and clothing on Genesis 3 Male and vice versa without using AutoFit. There are some extra steps using it with Genesis 8, but you don't have to be able to use a modeling program (unless you want to make a better ID morph after you're done, but we'll get to that).
Here's a YouTube version. You'll have to turn your sound up. Sorry.
Genesis 8 Male and Female
Instructions G8F to G8M:
Load Genesis 8 Female into the scene.
Load a piece of clothing or hair onto Genesis 8 Female that you wish to convert.
Go to the Parameters tab. If you do not have one, you can create one by right-clicking near your existing tabs and finding it in the list.
