So, it's been quite sometime since I last updated my DeviantArt page. It's probably been two years by now since my last post.
I have wanted to and considered updating my DeviantArt numerous times, but have felt a little hesitant about doing so for one reason or another.
(You know, once you fall out of the habit of doing something you use to like, it's just hard to feel comfortable doing it again, and in this case, just uploading artwork)

Some of the things I've been considering a lot of lately, was opening up, maybe a Tumblr as another place to upload my artwork.
But I don't exactly feel like I should abandon my DeviantArt page either. So somethings I've kind of been thinking about was opening a new DeviantArt page, just so the new name I use for my Tumblr is consistent with the name I'll have on DeviantArt, just to avoid any sort of mix ups and confusion. I don't exactly mind a fresh start, but this is a little painful. The memories that is, that I'd technically be leaving behind if I were to start a new page.

I've been on the fence about this for some time now, so I thought I'd share this idea with whomever is still actually silly enough to be sitting around, waiting for updates ;; Any sort of feedback will help. I already have a pretty solid idea of what I want to do. Anyway, just wanted to check in to see if anyone on my page is still watching my stuff, and would be available to give me some feedback or ideas that I can take into consideration with mine.

Thank you for your time!

You could always link your Tumblr on your Deviant Art and vice versa; some artists I know use both Deviant Art and Tumblr (and other art websites) but they use different names for each site (unless you're talking about yourself being mixed with the names, then I'm not sure other than buying the Core :( ) There's another art site called Pixiv but it's more.. secure? You can only see some of the art, a preview? But it's not as popular/well known as Deviant Art/Tumblr.
I haven't done too much on Tumblr so I'm not very familiar with it yet, thought I do know that there's a reblogging or a like button and that artists are more preferable towards the reblogging because it kind of "links" you to the original artists, while liking doesn't spread awareness/attention for the artist? Something like that :(
A lot has been said from the two deviants below, so there's not much else to say since I don't want to repeat anything that they've already said ;u;
It's good to hear from you again though! :) I can't wait to see what's in store~

You actually brought up a really good point I had not thought of when it comes to the re-blogging gimmick on Tumblr! You make an excellent point in terms of how, "Likes" don't really raise any sort of awareness to the original artist, but re-blogging sort of does! Good eye, I hadn't even thought of that. I've also totally overlooked the idea of being able to link viewers from DeviantArt to Tumblr or Tumblr to DeviantArt. Reason why I wanted to have a consistent name across the different websites is because of watermarks. I'd prefer not to have say for example, two different watermarks on one drawing you know? It'll make everything look like a cluster. So visually, it's just not very appealing to look at.

But regardless, thank you very much for taking the time to respond!
It was good hearing from you again too!

Yeah! Although Likes serve little to purpose of spreading awareness, it's still very nice to get imo :) (still a compliment lol!) but yes. I'm pretty sure reblogging directs you back to the initial poster.
As for watermarks.. I feel like.. Hmm. I want to say that you can choose one or the other sites as your watermark, and while linking dA and Tumblr(or just writing on Tumblr that you are __ on dA and vice versa), people will usually find the watermarked name via Google or a search engine since both dA and Tumblr will pop up.
Usually the only time I've seen people use two different watermarks is when they have two seperate accounts for different reasons.
I think the only person I know who makes two different watermarks(she uses websites) on their art would be Sakimi-chan..(if that's the sort of watermark you're going for)
But whatever makes you feel comfortable really :)

Yeah but all that stuff with redirecting people from one site to another just sounds like a bit mess. Just reading it sounds like a big mess lol.
But thanks once again for your feedback!

Yuuhu Vic!! Haha I was super surprised to see a post from you and was contemplating if it would've been too awkward to comment but HECK I want to throw in my help--hopefully it'll be useful @ @

I personally find tumblr to be a bit hard to attract followers and I didn't figure this out until way later, but if you do decide to go for a tumblr account, supposedly it helps to put  popular tags (ex. you type in a couple letters and it'll suggest to you "popular tags" listing related to whatever you're about to type out, select those instead of typing it out yourself.) Its weird unless I'm just doing it wrong X'D that way it'll appear on that specific listing with the rest of the 100+ note posts. *if you're looking for exposure

As for the dA account situation, you can always change your user name to a new one if you feel attached to memories on this account! That's what I did instead of making a new account for a fresh start--I couldn't ditch behind all the good times on good'o 'vocaloidhaine! I can't push you to do anything but GURLLll you should never feel hesitant about uploading your artwork! You should feel proud and achieved! * ^ *9 FIGHTING mmkay!? idk if you've ever seen it, but the japanese fisherman on youtube!

NEVER GIVE UP!! (•̀•́)و✧

Take care, Vic!!

Whoa, Christine? I had no idea I was still in your follow feed! Well I'm glad you decided to respond to my post, despite thinking that it'd be awkward. Which is normal, since I think the last time we've spoken with each other was like, almost 4 - 5 years ago? You're definitely much braver than I am, that's for sure! I had a similar situation where I was also contemplating on whether or not I should have stopped by your table to say "hi" when I saw your name at Anime Expo 2015's Artist Ally list! I mean, your name looked slightly unfamiliar, so I had to double check your DeviantArt page. I saw your drawings on one of the days, and kinda just made a circle around your table to get around artist ally;; LOL

But anyway! That besides the point! Thank you for deciding the make the effort to help me out with these decisions I've been trying to finalize myself. I've never used Tumblr, so I'm not quite sure how it works. But what you brought up does sound like it'd be a bit of a struggle to gain exposure. I heard previously there isn't any "like" button either, it's just people re-blogging things they like. Which is a bit -- awkward when I look at it. I've only considered Tumblr because it appears be a popular place for artist to post work on. That or Instagram -- Which I know even less of. How's that? Have you used it?

Yeah, I know I could've made my life easier by using DeviantArt's names change through their payment services, but come on, $15s to only change my username with additional features I barely care about? With $15s, you can get yourself a pretty decent meal AND still have enough to go out and buy Honey Green Tea + Aloe Jelly -- with ice! ;; I'll probably come to some conclusion soon (Hopefully). Really, this journal was just to check if anyone was actually still actively keeping up with me, because if there wasn't it'd be a lot easier for me to move on to a new page, rather than moving people to a new page you know? But once again, thanks for taking the time to respond! You're for sure much braver than I am! Thanks for putting helpfulness above awkwardness--? LOL

And no, I don't really know what you were talking about near the end of that post ;;
If it was suppose to be a joke, I can lie and say I laughed very hard. LOL

Oh aha yeah xDD I don't really bother unwatching people bc I'm way too lazy to go through everybody @ @
&& LOL dooh sorry I had to make you feel like that! If anything I don't think I would've recognized you or someone else was covering my table majority of the time!

Mm..well tumblr definitely does have a "like" button but its usually for people to just collect to see for themselves, and reblogging is sharing the post with their followers. Maybe try a Facebook artist account? I personally really love using my FB account more than Tumblr just because it feels like a lot of people are of course, on FB daily so it would pop up on their feed a bit more often.
Another alternative would be PaigeeWorld, I would say it's definiately very easy to share your artwork and the mods there promote your page if you're new/etc cool perks. And the crowd there is way more active than dA but much---younger crowd (like young teens?) their site is just like a pinterest, they can "like" and comment only.

And oh snaps I didn't know it costed that much @ @ I always thought it was free--though probably in the early beginning when they first released it? idk. But yeah! Check out any of those alternatives above if you feel that dA might not be the place anymore (i feel that its very quiet now as compared to 2010 crowd)

&& LOLLLll super random but I always watch that video to motivate me >XDD

Hi Christine! Sorry to bother you, but could I grab your attention for a few minutes?
I recently opened up a tumblr page, and I sort of peeked into your tumblr a little as a reference.
It's going to come off as a bit of a dumb question, but how do you effectly, and nicely link pages from your tumblr page?
Like, you have yours in this cute little area in the corner, and I haaate how mine is just -- sitting there, underlinked...
To save you some time I guess, I know it has something to do with HTML, but I don't know, the waaays -- you know? lol;;
If you're short on time, a quick Tumblr 101 would work too, thanks for your time!

DeviantArt has also seen some changes it looks like -- I don't understand all these extra things --;;

Hiya Vic! Hmm I haven't messed with my tumblr appearance in awhile so bare with me if it'll sound confusing and hope that it'll work!
I actually got my page design from smpldesign.tumblr.com/ where you can just "download" it and it'll automatically install onto your page (I believe that's what should happen). That was the basic way to get it to have the side bar placed onto the side instead of the center. There are much fancier themes if you want, you can just search it up on google.

Linking the pages was super complicated at first!
But basically after you've installed your theme, you go to your page > edit appearance > edit html > it'll look confusing with all the html and codes, but I think you can do CTRL+F and type in "archive" and somewhere near a wall of text, it should have links for your archive and ask button/etc etc. ex. (Sdff by Rumi-Kuu ) just to get to a general area for where the sidebar links are located. > then basically I just substituted all the links I didn't need with links to my dA/tumblr.

I have a separate tag for doodles so whenever I have a drawing and add in "doodles" into the tag, it'll show up there. It HAS to be spelled exactly as the same as the tag you type. ( for me, it can't be "doodle" it has to be "doodles")

I hope this helps in anyway! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

That was a super detailed response;; Thank you!

You kinda lost me the moment you mentioned something about Tags though;;
Can you elaborate a little more on what you mean by tags? Is this like, one of those hash tag things
you put below things you've uploaded or re-blogged? Or is it something you need to specifically do in
order to allow your work to be viewed by other people? You made a point by saying you had to be
clear and specific about your tags being spelled, "doodles" and not just "doodle", so I'm not really
getting a tight grip on what that is suppose to mean; I'm sorry if this is all beginning to sound redundant;

Besides that, everything else was pretty helpful though! So thank you for sharing your time with me!
By the way! Something super quick, are you able to view/look up my Tumblr? I've tried searching for it on the browser -- and it continues to come up blank;; Would you have a solution? Thanks again! Stay warm!

Oh! Yeah sorry its the hashtag "tags" when you post/reblog something. its only for categorizing things I suppose? Though that's just me, bc I reblog random stuff so I add "doodles" hashtag tags, to my drawings so it'll show up under the tab of "doodles" when someone clicks on it.

And about the name thing, I think it takes time for your tumblr name to register possibly into google's searches? Really not sure about that @ @;

But I don't want to keep bothering you with the same problem.
Thank you for the help!

Thanks for the feedback! That was quite a lot of information, but thank you for sharing your experiences with these different portfolios. I don't think I'll consider the two you've recommended, but I'll take it into consideration. Also yeah, if name change for DeviantArt was free, that would've been awesome. I don't think it was ever a free service though, if I'm not wrong. But yeah, thanks again for your feedback. I appreciate the time you've taken to type these heavy and long paragraphs lol

Well I don't put much art on my deviantart page either but I keep it as active as i can so that I can look at the art of all the artist's I like, including you. Tumblr is a good idea but I'd recommend using watermarks on Tumblr since some people don't credit when they reblog/ don't know how to reblog (then again what site doesn't have that happen?)
Or another plan would be to use the new deviantart art as maybe a wip page and Tumblr being the finished pieces or vice versa.

I had no idea Tumblr worked that way, thank you for the insightful information!
Watermarks in general are pretty important essentials for any artist on any type of website that present themselves as an art portfolio.
But I will keep what you said in mind! Thank you for your suggestions as well, and of course, for your time in reading/responding to my journal!
