Government As envisioned by Avatar Aang, the United Republic is a federal republic consisting of eight federal provinces, seven major city states, one occupied region, and two special territories. All of these different locations were originally represented equally in the eyes of the Federal Congress, but over time as the government realized the importance of certain areas over others, more thought was taken into consideration when dealing with laws or events that could affect all regions. Because of this mentality, the United Republic has become what is described by outsiders as a “Necessary Sacrificial” democracy, which is a nation that makes necessary sacrifices to continue its survival. And by looking at the Republic’s history, it is definitely an earned name, as the United Republic has done various things over time to survive. The Patchwork systems are unique among the rest of the galaxy as having almost no native populations of their own when they were first discovered. Cave paintings, primitive settlements, and long decayed bronze age cities indicate that there used to be a collection of thriving people across the systems, but what happened to them is currently unknown. The first people to have set foot in a Patchwork System was the crew of the ISS Vladius, led by Duine Captain Kesvio, which was sent on a exploratory mission after a probe was launched by the Imperial Astronomical Enchiridion from the Toksha System and encountered a stable wormhole at the edge of the Belt. The ISS Vladius was equipped with plenty of supplies and was given a series of Non-Euclidean Room generators, allowing the ship to take an additional population size of three hundred alongside its crew of four hundred and sent into the wormhole, arriving in the Patchwork Systems. We open on a dark screen, nothing to be seen at all, when suddenly, a quiet voice begins to speak. The voice is quiet, soft, and calming, but we can hear a tinge of fear within her voice.
