Depression. This is a perfect reminder. We're all surrounded by such happy people.

A great visual interpretation of depression. I hope it's okay that I used this in my blog post - with credit to you and a link back.…

Reminds me of middle school.

Being a (normally) calm, level-headed student surrounded by loud, obnoxious, "in your face" inner city students was bothersome.

I was constantly driven to annoyance, anger, violence, and occasional rage. All I needed was to be left alone, to my own devices.

This is... surprisingly accurate. very well done. Very beautifully disturbing.

Very nice. Is this a fleeting thing for you, or a daily thing. And if it's daily, do you have a job? How do you cope...
mikeyole Featured By Owner Apr 22, 2011
I can relate to this so well. I get so scared when I'm in a crowd and so left out.
MadKatter89 Featured By Owner Apr 8, 2011
like your interpretation of this.

Amazing. Just beautiful.
You captured the main idea of the word 'Depression'.

you could have split the image in two where the colors would be inverted: on the opposite side it could have shown the depressive in gray and everyone in color and having real fun
vesuvia Featured By Owner Apr 26, 2010  Professional General Artist
I thought about that. But I came to the decision that it's a commonality to see people who are alive and having fun in full color and brightness. I wanted to portray an alternative concept of what depression means, feels, and looks like to the person struggling though the disease. Thanks for looking at this piece and I appreciate your comment! :)

Very interesting approach to a difficult subject.
I would like you to see the way I pictured it [link] and to hear your opinion.

Hmm, very interesting. Uusally when I think of depression its kind of the opposite of this pic; everyone else is happy and colorful and you are just stuck in colorless blah...but I suppose its true that in depression everything around you looks empty and there is not a friendly face in the crowd.

Nice pic.

I think it's really interesting how you chose to make everyone else grey, but the main girl, the focus in color. I would totally expect the opposite.
Great depiction.
tahlalalia Featured By Owner Nov 8, 2009
Not only is everyone getting on with their lives while your stuck there in your own loneliness but everything around you feels so grey and detached. Perfect representation.
villageofbree Featured By Owner Oct 1, 2009  Hobbyist General Artist
i so get this. everyone else is living their lives entirely oblivious.

I took little time studying about depression, and my question is: What are the demons in this picture?

A powerful piece. I'm not sure why I decided to search for depression on devart, but it's a good thing I did. I love this piece on how well described the message is. I shed a tear when I looked at this because it hits home...

I've felt like this many times in my life... and I still do now, though not as much.

Thank you for sharing this.

the demons that haunt us :/ very well done in this picture depicting (sp?) this
namesblah Featured By Owner Jan 17, 2008 this this completely absolutely perfectly conveys the feelings of loneliness, and how someone would feel like they don't belong, like you're standing in a crowd and no one can see you and you want to communicate with someone-anyone- and you say something like "hey! I'm here! help me! listen to me!" but they just can't understand what you're saying...

This is a wonderful, wonderful piece of art. I love how she looks so vulnerable and is nervously clutching her dress.
sincerity07 Featured By Owner Jan 10, 2008
Love how you depicted this; it's different from a lot of presentations of it in that the central character is bright rather than dark, but this does denote a sense of lonlieness and alienation from others.

I've noticed that many artists depict depression as someone trapped in a small bubble or box. This interpretation seems very original and very real. And, obviously, it hit home with many other people. I like your explanation to Queenofhartz. What you said is far from "crap." Great job.
Mase-chan Featured By Owner Nov 28, 2007
This extremely deep and true. Wonderful picture. I think it does portray how everyone around doesn't notice and how the one depressed seems to sink lower and lower.
I like the contrasting colors as well. Kudos!
JaksGuardianDragon Featured By Owner Nov 3, 2007
This is really beautifully done. The way it's presented really shows how depression can effect somebody: You're in the middle of it all, nobody may seem to notice, and they all carry on with their lives.
SonOfPeter Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2007
Whoa ... You rapresented that emotive status very well ... Yes, this art is sad, but also empathic ...
