That precious thing....timeIt is with great sadness that I have to start this journal by sharing the news of the passing of :iconjocelyneR: aka :iconsurrealistic-gloom:. I have been aware of Jocelyne for a long time here on dA but was only recently introduced to her. She certainly had a great presence here. I always think a measure of a person is the number of lives they touch in their time on this planet and the space they leave behind when they are gone. It is clear that she was a very dear and loved lady from the many dedications I have been reading. Her kindness and generosity were her hallmarks. May you all keep your memories of her close to your hearts. I wish I had got to know her better.
We have moved into 2019 in the UK in the same kind of chaos we left 2018 so no change there. Who knows what will happen this year? Surely things have to get better. Here and in the world in general things have to get better. I was looking through my pictures from 2018 the other day and was struck, not for the

The whole of the moon.I was grounded
While you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truth
You cut through lies
I saw the rain dirty valley
You saw Brigadoon
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
You know, I read a lot and I listen to music a lot. I have mentioned before that good writers have the ability to use very few words to say a great deal. For many years this one sentence from this song has been living in my head. "I saw the crescent, you saw the whole of the moon". You see, I may once have been that person. I saw the crescent but I have been learning, over the years, to see the whole of the moon. I have many role models in life, some of them photographers, some writers, some sports people, some adventurers and many people who I have come across in life (funnily enough no politicians ) When I see the photographs of Joe Cornish I am totally aware that he is seeing the whole of the moon. It is about being on another level. You don't just see things on a basic level, you see things in
Mostly FeaturesHello All! I don't have much to update on at the moment. I am ok most of the time and sometimes here or there have rough time with emotions and a bit of heartache/breakage. Time heals most wounds but not all. In other news, this weekend may or may not bring me more photos to upload and share .. If not this weekend.. maybe next. We will see. I have a forever amount of photos in which I still have to upload. I am doing it slowly but surely lol. I cannot tell you how excited I am for fall weather. California has been nothing but heat and fire. I know that the real cool temperatures probably won't come til mid to end of November .. if at all that is. Sometimes our winters are extremely warm. I just want it to be cold so I can cuddle up with a blanket, book, and piping hot cup of tea. Anyways let us get to the good part of this post!

Any landing is a good landingLast Saturday I went to The Barbican in London to an exhibition of photographs by Dorothea Lange. For those who don't know her work, she photographed the hardship endured by farmers and others in the dustbowl of America during the depression of the 1930s amongst many other things. It was an amazing collection of photographs and showed that the poor will always be those who suffer most. Something that has never changed. I am always looking for the right words to use when I want to say something and it doesn't always come easily to me. When I use a quotation from someone it is because they have managed to put into a few words something I wanted to express but they did it better. Dorothea said many things in her long life and she always knew how to cut to the chase. I always say you should live each day as if it was your last and she has been able to put that in a way I never could.
" One should really use the camera as though tomorrow you'd be struck blind. " Dorothea Lange

Angels are grieving for Jocelyne
I have terrible news about Jocelyne: as you may have noticed here non existent activity since a week, she got struck by a severe aneurysm rupture in the brain. For those who don't know yet, I, Philippe, a.k.a. philippeL is her son. Her secondary account is also surrealistic-gloom, where she allowed to express deep emotions through surrealistic and strongly edited photos.
She desired to keep all those "secrets" for her own reasons, not to offend anyone, on the contrary. But now, everybody ought to know her terrible fate.
Although she did not suffer much since the time I saw her - certainly she experienced a massive headache when it happened at her home at Quebec City, Canada, early this week. Seized by violent spasms and gestures, she grabbed tables, chairs, books and many objects on her grasp, living the room where she was as a mess. And I found here there Friday night. I know that she was in this state
The Hidden Perspective(Please view maximized for better presentation)
Dear Members and Watchers
This feature is one of black and white photography. Not just black and white, but of the human experience up close. Here we will be seeing parts of people, as in hands and arms and legs. Also, close ups: portraits that remain highlighted and shadowed in a way not showing the whole, body shots that use shadows and light, hiding everything but what the photographer wanted you to see. But our minds will see beyond, though light and shadow is used to emphasize, to minimize, to glamorize, to hide, to tell a story.
