I am Jan Mennenga, concept artist and illustrator hailing from The Netherlands.
Since 2003, I have been diving into the world of digital art. Though my personal preference lies with painting, I have learned to be as versatile as possible; from photomanipulation to vector work, I've tried to learn as much as I could - it really is one of my greatest passions. It is, in fact, a passion through which I found another one -Pepokish and I met through our art on this website, and as of May 16th, we're husband and wife.
On deviantART, you'll usually find me in #DigitalMedia, #ArtistTree or #Thumbsshare. Outside of deviantART, you can also find me on websites such as conceptart.org. One reason I spend time meeting other artists, is because I love watching (and helping) artists grow. It is because of that that you'll often see me pick apart a piece entirely while writing critiques; something I much enjoy doing as a token of appreciation for an artist's work.
If you can't handle critique, don't ask for it, because you will not like me.
I promise I'll try and do these regularly! I want to feature artists that, for whatever reason, have inspired me and led me to create the work I made today; whether it's a personal piece of advice, an old tutorial, or somebody who recently demonstrated a new a technique I wanted to give a whirl; I feel it's only fair to pay back! :)
A Return to deviantART?
Man, it's been ages since I last updated this journal. I've been pretty inactive here on dA, but my dear wife little-owlette (https://www.deviantart.com/little-owlette) seems to have tricked me into getting to be more active here again. It's been years since I properly delved into this site, though, and I do notice dAmn is near-empty - which is actually quite disappointing. I've been looking for some more active, involved groups around here though, so if you have any in mind, do let me know! :)
On the artistic front, I've been improving quite a bit over the past years, focusing mainly on painting from scratch, working with texture, and really pushing myse
So, long time no see! I know I've been a bit idle around these parts, so I'm really sorry for those I didn't get back to.
Anyhow; a little update. After getting married to Pepokish (https://www.deviantart.com/pepokish), we made a pretty major decision: We're going to move back to her hometown.. In the USA. This meant we had to go through a huge amount of paperwork, but I've finally been granted my visa(/greencard), and we're going to make the move to Washington within the next 2 months, if everything works out. unfortunately for you, that means I'll remain rather absent on deviantART, though you can always note/email me if you really need me!
