I think they are siblings (and that Kylo lied to her) so I don't see them having a romantic relationship.  However, I could see them creating something better than the Jedi and Sith, together.  Even if they ARE still somehow unrelated I would much prefer to see a collegial relationship between them.

I don´t think they are, we will see about that. Did you read the TLJ novelization???? It was really good and there are things in that novel that make me think that they aren´t related. Anyways, I do think they do complement each other and could bring balance to the force. I didn´t paint them kissing or hugging, just together...

May I ask what makes you think they are siblings????????? I am honestly puzzled now...

I have yet to read the TLJ novelization though I had hoped I would have done so earlier.  I plan to do a review of it, so it's definitely still on my "to read" list.

For me, the idea that they are siblings comes from the similarities between the initial connection they felt through the Force (before Snoke messed with them) to that between Luke and Leia.  Also, there is a possibility in my mind that Rey was dumped on Jakku to save her from Snoke and her memory from before that time was wiped.  The Jedi were capable of doing that in the EU, and two people come to mind who would have been strong enough in the powers of the mind to do that: Luke...and Kylo Ren himself.

Hell, there's even a possibility that if they are blood-related, Kylo couldn't bring himself to kill his own little sister, and was the one to wipe her memory and dump her on Jakku (IMO I think Luke would not be this callous, making Kylo the more likely culprit for a memory wipe and abandoning her to such an awful place).  The memory wipe would explain multiple issues with Rey's character: her unnaturally fast learning of the Jedi arts, her uncannily specific knowledge of piloting and the MILLENNIUM FALCON in particular (which was one-of-a-kind due to being HEAVILY modified), and even why she couldn't see anything in the mirror cave...because it could not restore her destroyed memories.

If Kylo was the one to wipe her memory, this would explain the reaction from the TFA novelization when he first sees her and says, "It IS you!"  This would be his recognizing his little sister for the first time in many years.  It would also potentially explain his choice to lie about her ancestry...he neither wants to admit he was too weak to kill his sister (like Vader was too weak to kill his son), NOR does he want to expose the crimes of destroying Rey's memory, abandoning her to misery on Jakku, and killing not just HIS father but hers too (all of which he feels guilty about despite trying to deny it).

Not to mention, his attempt to convince her she is nothing without him is a case of the deliberate psychological abuse and gaslighting Snoke constantly did to HIM.  He does not have to be telling the truth for it to be a case of the abused repeating the behavior learned from his abuser.

Also, I firmly believe Rian Johnson intentionally derailed plans JJ Abrams had been setting up (which were IMO going to include a family relationship) and now that JJ is back I don't think he'll take kindly to all of his setup work in TFA having been fucked with.  I think he's likely to try and get things back on track, and in this case it would be very, VERY easy for all the reasons I give above, to say that Kylo was lying in an attempt to make Rey subordinate to him.

I certainly can't prove any of this...and I can say that regardless of what happens in canon, unless they give me something REALLY compelling, in my AU Rey is going to be Kylo's younger sister.

Yes, read the TLJ book. I  had a great time reading it and it made so much sence, reading Rey´s thoughts and Kylo´s thoughts...
It explained a lot, specially the loneliness both felt and how Rey in the end decided to give Ren time for the force to show him his path, it was beautiful... I don´t think there were romantic feelings from them, but a great need for each other, specially from Ren. His loneliness and hurt, his pain is so vividly narrated... you can´t miss this book... Well there is a part, that REY ... mmmm, at the hut, wants to touch his "hand, his face, his hair" O.o  And "at the sight of him she´d felt relief surge through her"... I mean, who want to touch someones face AND hair, just because... idk... lol

And I don´t know if he lied to her, in the end, she knew he was right:

"Do you want to know the truth about your parents" he asked.
"Or have you always known and have you just hidden it away- hidden it from yourself? let it go. You know the truth. Say it!"
Rey tried to find the strenght to deny him, to shove him away. But he was right. She did know the truth- and it was the same as her greatest fear, the one that had haunted her for so long.
A truth she could find no refuge from.
"They were nobody," she said.
"They were filthy junk traders who sold you off for drinking money," Kylo said. "They´re dead in a pauper´s grave in the Jakky dessert."
Tears filled Rey´s eyes. She fought to keep her emotions contained, fearing that if she realeased them even for a moment they would overhwhelm her and sweep her away.
Kylo was a pace away now, his eyes locked on hers...
"You have no place in this story," he said. "You come from nothing. You are nothing."
And then his eyes softened.
"But not to me. Join me. Please."
He turned his uncle´s lightsaber off and stretched out his hand to hers....

Hmm...for me, Rey could still have that same reaction should her memory have been tampered with.  And personally I think JJ Abrams is going to reverse the stupid stuff Rian Johnson did as much as he can, so I think a lot of things from TLJ are still fluid.

Glad to see the book didn't make it a romantic thing though.  I will definitely read it though I am likely to be slow since I'll be taking notes for my review whenever I do get started.

Ok, the book is actually really good and so is the movie. I love that they have both POV´s (Rey and Kylo´s). Along with Leias and Lukes. It´s my favourite book in the SW universe... and the movie too...I am positively sure no one has tampered with Rey´s memories. She was just abandoned and learned to wait, to be patient... to survive.

Some things we have discussed are bad (Poe, Finn and Rose) and the way they handled Leia and even Luke, but Rey and Ben, to me are perfect as they are. That being said, I do hope for some love and romance, since, well, love does move the universe and Star Wars deserves a happy ending. Now, Ben has done some terrible things, and I don´t know if he will survive or what they will do with him, but he is an amazing character (emo or not). He was just so hurt and in misery, that Luke chose Rey over him, and his parents for being worried over him. He does still have a connectiong with Leia and well, the moment he is about to fire on Leia he thinks this: "It´s too late to be sorry, Mother. Though you´re right to worry". But he couldn´t do it. He couldn´t kill his mother...

He is very flawed and confused, around  the end of the book I love this lines (in Rey´s POV):

Rey had stood over Kylo, lying unconscious on the floor of the throne room after the detonation of Luke´s lightsaber, and she had seen very clearly what she could do. It would be so easy to take up the blade, ignite it, and end his life. How many lives would the work of a few moments save? How much darkness would be prevented?

She had stood in the throne room and seen herself doing it- and yet she had inmmediately known that she wouldn´t.

Luke´s error had been to assume that Ben Solo´s future was predetermined- that his choice had been made. Her error had been to assume that Kylo Ren´s choice was simple- that turning on Snoke was the same as rejecting the pull of the darkness.

The future, she saw now, was a range of possibilities, which were constantly reshaped by the outcome of events that seemed minor and decisions that seemed small. It was very hard not to see the future that dominated your hopes or fears as fixed and immutable, when in fact it was just one of many. And more often than not, awareness of the Forece wouldn´t help you find path through those branching twisting possibilities.

The Force could show you the future, centainly- but which future? The one that was to be? Or the one that you yourself would bring about, drawn to it helplessly? Even if that was the future you most hoped to avoid?

Rey had learned that the Force was not her instrument- that, in fact, it was the other way around.

Just as Kylo was its instrument, despite his determination to bend it to his will. He would learn that one day, she senced- the Force wasn´t finished with him. And that meant Kylo´s life was not hers to take, whatever future she thought she saw ahead of him.

Rey would wait, however difficult that would be to do as the First Order warships descended on Crait. She would wait, and the future would unfold as the Force willed.

That has always been true. The difference was that now she understood it...

So far it sounds like I will be at least somewhat happier with how Kylo was handled in the adult novel than the junior novel, which really missed the boat.  I think you may have already read my review but here it is again just in case. ;)

The TLJ Junior Novel: Beauty and DisappointmentHey guys!  Here's my review of the "junior novel" (kids' book) of The Last Jedi by Michael Kogge.  When TLJ came out, I decided I was going to read both the book for kids and for adults, to see if I could pick up on any additional context that might bring additional color to the things that went on with the movie.
Based on my experiences with the junior novel for The Force Awakens, also by Michael Kogge, I had high hopes for the TLJ book.  Some were fulfilled...others were not.  I am not entirely sure whether the fault for the disappointing aspects resides with deliberate decisions by the author--or with the fact that perhaps he had to write the book based solely on the screenplay rather than the final cut, actually seeing the way the characters were acted.  So please understand that even though I criticize, I don't want to pretend as though I know the whole story, and I do think there's a chance some factors got in the way that were outsid

My Light Sith actually refuses to believe or obey Force visions, BTW.  First of all he does not experience them even though his apprentice does...but secondly, he refuses to do something that he considers absolving himself of his responsibility to make his own decisions and shape his own future.  He is Light but he IS Sith in that he believes the Force is a tool and not something to submit to.

BTW I'm going to add another subject to our note... :)

I wonder how their relationship will continue in Episode IX? Maybe Kylo Ren will have an epiphany?

I am sure Ben Solo will have a moment when he will suddenly feel that he understands, and suddenly become conscious of, something/someone that is very important to him. It could be Rey, and his mother, Leia... sadly we won´t see those two together or maybe just his mission in life...

I hope so. Maybe he can take out General Hux while he's at it. Maybe he can go on a mission of penance and become a galaxy-traveling vigilante.

Hux reminds me of those World War II commanders on the Axis side. But far more ruthless. Plus he's a redhead.

Hux will stop at nothing to crush the Resistance once and for all. He's the Tarkin of the sequel trilogy. But he lasted for more than one movie. And maybe in Episode IX he'll get his. I wonder if Captain Phasma will return too?
