So, I've gotten the bug -- the dolling bug! Now, I haven't made any actual dolls (yet). However, I've been updating my website like crazy -- in only the last day or so. I've already rolled out Wordpress on my main website ( www.rubberhouse.net ) and there may still be a few kinks to work out. But I'm very excited! It will be more a blog about OTHER people's doll websites (or deviantart or elfwood profiles, etc). I'm going to highlight other's awesome websites, along with older but awesome websites that are no longer updated, forums, etc. So please, check it out and let me know what you think!

Well, not that I'm doing a LOT on my cast's Rocky Horror site & Facebook, but that really did overtake my online time when I was first made the "promotions director" for our cast. It's pretty toned down now; I actually think we need to focus more of our energy in keeping our current audience members (especially the virgins or those that never saw the show before -- we get a LOT of those) and having THEM spread the word about the show, as opposed to spending our hard earned money on flyers that may not bring in even 10 people.

Ahh, but I digress. I plan to start working more on the tutorial search engine. There's a lot of spam that needs clearing out, sadly, of crappy bots sending in crappy websites for non-doll related stuff.

My Palace Chat server is set to expire sometime around February or March, and I'm not sure if I'll be renewing it. The interest for dolling on Palace just doesn't seem to be there anymore. I had unfortunately paid an entire year of hosting up front, because I hadn't been aware of that fact just yet. I could always just log on to Avatar Palace (or The Mother Ship, or any other Palace Chat servers), if anyone is interested in chatting in real time.

I've also been wanting to make some pixel art again; the time just hasn't been there. I gotta make some time :D

Hey ya'll! I'm sorry for the lack of updates. Real life got more real since it started getting warmer out!

However, I'm going to try to work on my Palace Chat server hopefully very soon -- I'm thinking of having an online party or celebration, for cartoon doll lovers & enthusiasts!  What do you think about that idea?

Hi thar. Veri here.

Sorry for lack of updates...There is this...And my website...And my Paleo/Primal journal...And then of course there is my Palace Chat server.

AND I was just on vacation for a few days and before that was Spring Break and being that I work onboard Amtrak trains, you can imagine how freaking tired I was since everyone was travelling.  They still are XD  Anyhoo, planning on working on my male base and my Palace server in the next few days again.  Can't really do much this weekend since I'm performing at Rocky and I need to find all my costume bits.

So now that I have my new doll tutorial search engine up and running (cough cough, dir.rubberhouse.net), I have started working on my Palace Chat server again.  If you know what I'm talking about, you get a cookie!

"Aunt Veriria, what is The Palace Chat?" others might be asking.  I kinda hope you wouldn't be, as The Palace is where the idea behind Cartoon Dolls originated from.  Whether it was Shattered Innocents or not, the sk8ter avatar -- or first dolls -- were created in the 1995-1997 era of The Palace Chat.

The Palace Chat is a 2-D graphical chatting client, completely free to use and download.  The actual company that developed it went under with the big "Dot-Com" bubble burst in about the year 2000.  Ever since then it has been user-developed and supported, with thousands of servers up and online still to this day.  As stated before it is completely free to use, they ask for no personal information, and there are no ads or anything else attached to the software.

I have created a companion website for my chat server, which is online at www.verypalace.com

It has more information on my chat server, a bit of history of The Palace Chat, and links to websites about Palace and where you can download the software.

If you by chance already have the software installed on your computer, you can connect to my Palace by using the address verypalace.com and using port 9998 (you'd write verypalace.com:9998 in the connection box).  OR, you can visit my Palace using your browser, through the website Open Palace.  It uses an Adobe Flash based connection, so you don't have to download the software at all (but I'd still recommend getting the software anyways, it's better/easier to use!).  Click here for the Open Palace connection: www.openpalace.org/demo/#palac…

My Palace Chat server is hosted on a website which caters to Palace servers, so it is online 24/7 and is completely free to connect to. It's still small, but that's because I'm still working on it.  I'd love to get other dollers & pixelers to visit, perhaps even make some avatars for Palace!  That would be awesome.  Daenelia of Daelusion & The Manor Pixel Dollhouse has already re-imagined a classic Prep base body and is working on making avatars/dolls for my Palace.  I'm so excited!

I'm approaching 200 links in my directory *squeals* I'm so excited, and ever so glad I decided to get an actual directory script/software. It's just working out so much better than I ever thought it would!

Soooo...I have over 130 (actual) links in my cartoon doll search engine now!  And I feel like I've hardly visited any websites.  I've also added a few "featured" websites -- mainly, awesome sites that are still currently updated (relatively speaking).  Anyhoo, it's at dir.rubberhouse.net! &nbs… add your own links or other's links :D

So there are now 111 categories -- yes, eleventy-one -- and 66 links in the directory so far, all added by myself.  I'd love to stay awake and continue working on it, but it's nearly 2am here.  So, goodnight!  And please check out my directory, located at dir.rubberhouse.net and tell me what you think and/or add your own tutorial/basebody/dolls articles links by clicking on "Suggest Listing" in the upper right hand corner!

So -- it isn't open or anything yet, but I thought I'd share the directory so you can see what it looks like.

It will be located at www.rubberhouse.net/dir/

What do you think of the layout?  It's definitely colorful!

I originally wanted it to be on my main site, but a few of the files would interfere with the operation of my subdomains, so it had to be placed elsewhere.  But that's ok!

I'm going to start making the categories, and then adding links.  Once the categories are in place it will be very easy for anyone else to suggest a link for it!

So, I'm REALLY excited about this.  It's been on my mind ever since I came back to dolling.

Instead of trying to re-do my tutorials, or add new ones to my website, I'm going to make an updated directory of links to cartoon doll tutorials & other resources, such as sites with excellent base bodies, or palettes of color, articles on dolling, pixel art tutorials & information, and so on.  It might be useful and it might not.

How did this come about?  I learned WAY after the fact that Xandorra's website had been hacked and lost her directory, and never got it back up and online.  Then there is the UVDolls one, and another one, but neither have been updated in a few years and have a multitude of broken links.  So, for me it's a great way to help out the community, even if it only helps out one person I'll feel like it's been worth it.

I got a really nice directory software (that I purchased) to be able to make this directory.  It's actually the same one that UVDolls uses, though I'm not sure which version the owner used. I'm currently uploading the entire thing to a different directory on my server.  I had hoped to have it hosted on my main site (rubberhouse.net) as opposed to a subdomain, but I think something in one of the files will screw up the rest of my website if I do it like that (the .htaccess file won't allow subdomain folders to open up, it's pretty stupid but I'm not a website yoda so meh, subdomain it will have to be!).

The down side is there is 2,000 files to upload -_-; and that takes a while! lol

:D

Cheers~

So, I was working on a very roughly-made cartoon doll tutorials directory, basically made using Cutenews as the posting software.  Well, I decided I wanted an actual directory software, so I purchased one so I could get installation help and maintenance for a period of time.  I'm not too hip when it comes to html and php (you'd think I would have done more with computers, since I started playing on them back in the 80's on an Amiga when I was 5 years old!) but I can learn how to use it if I have the manual.

Anyhoo, I tried to install the directory software myself.  Due to an unknown error in installing (it's saying I need to register a domain before even logging in...........) I have to rely on the company to install it for me.  It's not a mistake on my part, I assure you!  It's just dumb.  Anyhoo, the .htaccess file from it overwrote my own already on my server when I uploaded the script stuff, so my doll site was down for a few hours (early in the morning thankfully, about 2am Easter to 7am Eastern) because of whatever is written in the directory's .htaccess file.  The only thing that sucks is I lost my own file.  I basically only used it for the .404 file and also for allowed websites to hotlink my images XD

I finally remember my password for my old account, under my regular username of Veriria, here on dA at veriria.deviantart.com/

Ugh!  At least I know it wasn't taken over by anyone malicious or anything.  Well, at least you can see I've been a dA member on that account for over 11 years :)

Back then, people were not posting their dolls on dA -- I don't even remember if they were posting regular pixel art, either.

Cheers

Sooo perhaps I'm being a bit fickle, but I decided that I wanted more functionality out of my doll link directory -- so I splurged and purchased a directory software (mainly so the host would insert it onto my server and install it and all that jazz).  The directory I was working on is currently online (but it wasn't officially open or anything) on my main site at www.rubberhouse.net

I was simply using Cutenews to add links in news stories, where one could at least comment.  But with the directory software, there will be able to be pictures, links, a search, and all sorts of stats and other things!  I'm excited.

I'm basically making this directory in homage to Xandorra and the UVDolls website.  Sadly, the last link to be submitted to UVDolls was back in August of 2010.  Instead of focusing on trying to make new tutorials for my website -- because after all, my site was the second to have tutorials for cartoon dolls -- I decided to instead link to others.  I've been so far out of the dolling scene, everyone has way better tutorials anyways.  The only reason my website gets the top results in google if you search for "cartoon doll tutorials" is because of how long it's been around now :)  Don't get me wrong, I know I helped inspire lots of people, and I'm sure glad I helped create this hobby on the internet in general (as opposed to keeping it a Palace only thing) but I know that the quote "The Master has become the student," applies to me here.

Cheers

Hi there!

It's been a long time...But I "made" my first doll in 5+ years.  My website is Veriria's Palace ala ver.rubberhouse.net. &nbs… was too intimidated in trying to draw a new base body, so I elected to use another's.  I chose Kenly's "Rice" base kenlybop.deviantart.com/ and though my edit is not heavily edited, it's something, right?  I mean, I haven't dolled in years!  So I'm proud of myself.

Other than that, I've got a project or two in the works for my website.  I'm currently updating my dolls site -- link above of course.  I'm also going to be creating a directory of sorts, for cartoon doll & pixel tutorials on the web.  It is a project inspired by Xandorra's old Doll Tutorial Directory and the UVDolls directory.  Xandorra's is offline and the UVDolls site hasn't had a new one added since 2010.  Very sad!  And I don't know of any others in existence so I think it will be a great resource for dollers.  This directory will appear on my main site, rubberhouse.net as opposed to ver.rubberhouse.net.  In hindsight, I probably should have set up my doll website on the main, but whatever.  I don't want to change how it is because it's been the same directory and website since 2001!

Anyways, thanks ya'll.  I hope to make some more dolls and bases in the future!

I guess it sort of makes me look like an idiot, but I didn't realize you could have a blog on deviant art here.  Well, I don't blog much, but I figured I may as well put pen to paper -- er, finger to keyboard, as it were.  Anyways, I like to browse DA for inspiration and for pictures I just happen to like.  Right now, I am immersed up to my eyeballs in Steampunk stuff --  I try to find music, victorian-eque objects to clutter my home with, and find thrift store clothing to use in my "costumes".  I don't really consider them costumes as such though, because I try to dress Steamy every day.  So in my favorites you will see lots of Steampunk stuff.

As far as my own images go, I've posted a few pictures of things I have created.  Which admittedly isn't a lot.  I love to craft I just seem to lack inspiration.  I have posted an assortment of pictures from my wedding, which was Steampunk themed.  My husband and I had a blast, so many people dressed up, even though they never heard of "Steampunk" before.

As of the last few days I've also been looking up what others have created using polymer clay.  Some of my most recent uploads have been of The Grim Squeaker himself, Death of Rats, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.  I made him because I dressed as Susan Sto Helit for Halloween.  I just don't have any pictures of it yet >>  I promise to upload them when I get any, though!
