It all started when you were enrolled into the DWMA by your father after he realized the potential you had as a weapon. You had never had a meister, but you were able to only transform certain bits of yourself at a time, using only an arm to fire out soul wavelengths at targets you’d set up in an old apartment building that was scheduled for demolition long ago.

Your first day at the school, you were assigned to meet with the founder’s son: Death the Kid. You bit your lip, glancing once more at the schedule in your hand. “He’s late,” you muttered as the students filtered in through the large doors of the school. The bell was going to ring in five minutes and your “guide” of sorts still hadn’t arrived.

A blue haired boy rushed past you, a tall, raven-haired girl who you assumed to be his partner chasing after him. Just behind that interesting duo was a white haired boy and a blonde girl with pigtails. While she seemed very insistent on getting to class on time, her partner obviously could care less. He sauntered up the stairs, a lazy smirk on his tan face.

His red eyes caught yours for a second before his smirk grew a bit and he continued walking, straight past you. You sighed, waiting for the Shinigami's son to show up. Sitting on the steps, you checked your watch. Three minutes.

“Um, hi,” you heard someone say from behind you. Glancing back, you saw the blonde girl from earlier, “Are you waiting for someone?”

You stood up, rubbing the back of your neck. “Y-yeah,” you answered bashfully with a small laugh, “You wouldn’t happen to know Death the Kid, would you?”

Her green eyes were sympathetic for a moment before she glared off to the distance. “Yeah, I know him. He won’t be here until 8. He’s kinda a freak like that.”

“Oh?” you raised your eyebrows at the girl, “Well he was supposed to show me around, so,” you trailed off as the girl looked back at you.

She smiled again, “It’s fine, I can help you out.”

You smiled earnestly at her, bending to pick up your bag. “Really?” The girl nodded and you cheered a bit. “Thank you so much!” you told her, following her into the building. “My name’s (F/n), by the way.”

Glancing back at you, the girl flashed you another quick smile on her round face. “Maka,” she said simply, reaching a classroom door just as the bell rang.

“Miss Albarn,” you heard a bored voice call out, “You’re late.”

She folded her arms together in front of her and rocked back and forth on her toes. “I’m very sorry, Professor, but (F/n) here was waiting waiting for Kid to show up to lead her around the school but we all know how he is.” You heard a few students snicker at her words, but Maka ignored them. “So I went out to get her.”

“How polite of you,” the professor said, his chair’s wheels clattering as he rolled across the floor. “Well, Miss (F/n),” the man said, addressing you, “I hope you don’t have a weak stomach! Today we’ll be starting another dissection.” There was a collective groan from the class as you followed your self-appointed guide up to a seat.

Maka sat down next to the white haired teen from earlier, the blue-haired boy and his partner just in front of the three of you. “Showing up late,” the tanned boy tsked, “Totally not cool, Maka.”

“Shut up,” she growled at him, before looking to you. “This is my weapon, Soul.”

Said boy leaned forward, into your line of vision. “Yo,” he said, a lazy grin showing his sharp teeth.

You smiled back at him with a shy wave, “(F/n),” you whispered back.

“The idiot in front of you is Black Star and next to him is his partner, Tsubaki.” Maka leaned a bit closer so that no one else would hear what she had to say, “He’s pretty stupid, but Tsubaki or I could definitely help you catch up, if you’d like.”

Flashing her another tight lipped smile, you quietly mentioned that it’d probably be a better idea to go to the taller girl. “I am a weapon, after all,” you laughed under your breath.

This caught Soul’s attention. “You’re a weapon?” he asked, grin widening, “What type?”

“Cannon,” you grinned at the sharp-toothed boy.

“Cool,” he said to you before sharply punching Black Star on the shoulder.

The green eyed boy turned around, “What the Hell?” he hissed at Soul, upset by the blow while he didn’t seemed to be hurt in the least.

Soul tilted his head to you. “New girl here is a cannon,” he said, the devious little smirk still playing on his tanned face.

Black Star grinned, wide-eyed. “No way! That is so cool! Who’s your meister?”

“Don’t have one,” you shrugged. The two boys seemed to get even more excited, and now you had the attention of their partners as well. You were saved from their attention, however, by a clocked chiming eight times. Only moments later, a boy completely clad in black and white and two, similarly dressed blondes walked in.

Professor Stein seemed uninterested by the students who showed up late. “Nice to see you, Kid,” he said, not looking up from whatever he was doing.

Kid. The boy who was supposed to show you around the school. Your lips puckered together like you had tasted something sour and you glared at the boy. “You’re Death the Kid?” you said as the boy took a seat between who you assumed were his two weapons.

“Yes,” he said, no interest in his voice as he stared straight ahead.

“Well gee,” you snarled, “you’d think that the kid who was supposed to guide me around school would show up on time.”

A small smile played on his pale face. “So your (F/n) (L/n), the weapon without a meister.” He turned around and held out a hand for you to shake. “It’s a pleasure to welcome you to our school.”

Raising a single eyebrow at the gesture, you took his hand after a moment’s hesitation and shook. “Of course it is,” you murmured.

“Kid has a thing for symmetry,” Maka muttered from next to you, “That’s why he’s always late.”

You nodded, pulling your hand away. “Got it,” you told her. The rest of the class was relatively uninteresting, but, after the bell rang, Patty and Liz, Kid’s twin guns, dragged you out of the room for lunch, Tsubaki and Maka trailing behind.

“You coming?” the dirty blonde girl said, addressing her weapon.

Soul waved her off, “Yeah, just give us a minute.”

She left after giving the three boys a suspicious glare, hurrying to catch up with you and the other weapons.

“So,” Soul grinned at the boys on either side of him. “(F/n).”

Black Star matched his grin. “She’s a freaking cannon! Can you imagine the damage a god like me could do with a weapon like that?” He laughed loudly, causing Kid to roll his eyes.

“Yes,” he said, “But she’s made it very clear to my father that she works alone. No meister.”

“Besides,” Soul laughed, “You already have Tsubaki.”

“Whatever,” the bluenette pouted before coming up with a wild idea. He grinned at his two friends before jumping from his seat. “First one to get her to blow something up wins!” he shouted, tearing off in the direction you left.

Soul laughed at the boy’s antics before looking at Kid. “You in?”

The shinigami’s son rolled his eyes again. “It sounds ridiculous.” Soul groaned before Kid began running after Black Star, “Don’t expect me to lose!”

Another sharp grin cut it’s way onto Soul’s face as he chased after his usually stuck up friend. ”This’ll be fun,” he thought as you came into view.

Black Star was already trying to convince you to fight him while Kid tried to take a more “pacifistic” approach.

“Very fun.”
