New viking shoes

This is a pic of my new shoes (or one of them anyway). Like my previous shoes they are based on a York and Hedeby finds. These ones was not fun to make. It took two hours to turn them (inside out) and my fingers hurt for a week after.
Next pair will most likely be of Oseberg type (softer on the hands =) )

The shoes are handstiched with hand waxed three threaded linen thread. The leather has not been dyed but the shoes have been waxed to shelter from water.

How do they fair in the winter?

They work nicely during winter. For long cold weather I use a larger pair that I can fit naalbinding socks in.

Aye. In our winter, I must wear socks and leg wraps. Thank you!

I was curious as to how you waxed the leather and what with?

Beeswax and oliv oil, carefully heated and mixed :)

It's a long time later, but I just wanted to let you know I've been treating my leather workings with a mixture of beeswax and olive oil for some time now, and It's done wonders! Thank you for sharing this information with me!

I'm sorry to say I don't sell any of my crafts or make any to order. I try to keep money out of this interest :) (Smile) You should try to make a pair yourself, there are lots of patterns and good tips out there:) (Smile). If you have questions just send me a note.

You wouldn't make shoes like this for others and sell them, would you?
