I've been working on translating my second published Fantasy book, Gophirith of the Mountains, into German recently and it's out in print now! Wooo! It has the same illustrations as the English version (which I recently revised to fix some mistakes in it), but a new cover design. It looks a tad more like the cover I made for Ssalia and the Dragons of Avienot back then - which wasn't intentional, but I think it's really neat. There's a news post on my writing website with more information, so check it out! :la:

  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Since 2009 with periods of inactivity.

  2. What does your username mean?
Velli is short for Vellisia, a character I created for my first self-published novel (Ssalia and the Dragons of Avienot) and have since been using as a fursona & general representation of myself. She's a dragoness, thus the dragon part. I originally used the name FelixAlexander, the name of a fox character I had at the time but don't use anymore.

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Meh, I tried.

  4. Are you left or right handed?
Primarily right-handed apart from a few things I generally use my left hand for. I draw and write with my right hand.

  5. What was your first deviation?
"Tamiko the Tigress" was the first thing I uploaded here and also one of my first "real" attempts at drawing Furry art despite having no idea how to at the time. I hadn't learnt how to sketch a character yet, so I just drew the outlines from scratch and used a lot of fancy shading to gloss over the fact. Needless to say, it was awful, so it's now in storage. I've never drawn the character again since, but most characters I draw are one-shot ones.

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
I've tried my hand at varuious types of digital art. My favourite kind is probably anything where I'm not confined by reality. Cartoony and stylised stuff, that is. Especially in more recent times, I've been having fun discovering and playing around with my own personal drawing style. I also like drawing "new" things that I won't ever have to draw again and making things up as I go.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
A vaguely more realistic-looking Fantasy style. Would be nice to be able to depict the scenes in my head (and from my Fantasy writing) in a manner that's not quite so cartoony.

  8. What was your first favourite?
"Krystal 2006" apparently. I was rather shy about faving things when I was newer, so I would only do so with deviations that were getting a lot of favourites already so mine wouldn't stick out. Krystal also has one of my favourite character designs and this is an awesome drawing of her.

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Fat art, Furries and beautiful Fantasy/nature scenes.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
I have several that I like. I would find it hard to limit my choice to any single one.

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I'm not really sure. There are a number of awesome and friendly artists, especially but not limited to fellow Furries, but I'm extremely shy and would probably melt in the presence of anyone I admire.

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Well, my significant other is on deviantART, if that counts, though I didn't meet him here.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
I use a Wacom Intuos 3 and Photoshop 6. Not exactly preferred as I'd rather use a graphics program more optimised for drawing on a tablet, but it's all I can afford.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Well, I make only digital art, so I don't really have much of a choice of where I can work on things. Sitting on a porch while it's raining seems like it would be wonderful for art, though.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Being gifted a brief premium membership for my Birthday so I could change my username to match the one I use elsewhere even though I'm most definitely not awesome enough to deserve it. Thanks so much, you folks!

So I just discovered that a new "feature" since having to switch to a new computer seems to be that my pen pressure in Photoshop randomly decides to stop working on an entire line about every 5-20 lines that I draw for absolutely no good reason. Now, both my Photoshop version and Wacom tablet are very old, but an internet search reveals that this problem has been reported as recently as 5 months ago on newer version and already been reported as far back as many years ago, with Wacom (and presumably Adobe as well) promising to fix it and never doing so. It's disheartening that even upgrading my tablet and software likely isn't going to fix it and disturbingly revealing about how much both companies rely on name familiarity above quality to sell their crud.

While this is the first time I'm noticing this particular annoyance, it's just the last straw following a long history of Wacom + Photoshop compatibility issues, all of which have been reported for a wide variety of versions according to searches, with Wacom apparently blaming Adobe while Adobe has been blaming Wacom and neither has investigated them. I'm rather vexed right now. I can "work around it" by undoing the line everytime it messes up and trying again, but it doesn't exactly make digital painting a very pleasant process, so until I have the opportunity to get something that actually works (which won't be soon), my motivation is probably going to hit a new low. I am increasingly tempted to find out how far a Wacom tablet can fly when tossed out of a window at great force.

Well, it looks like my primary, pre-stone age computer has died just in time for Christmas. Oh joy. I'm using a laptop, but I can't currently use it for everything that I used the other one for, like use my drawing tablet. There are also files I can't access right now, but I'll be trying to salvage them. My webcomic will not be able to update until I can solve this. I'm in a lousy mood now. :(

Update: I managed to retrieve some files and update Tails of Lanschilandia via the laptop, but I probably won't be able to prepare next week's page on this route. Stay tuned?

Some awesome friends gave me a premium membership as a late birthday present! Thank you so much, you know who you are! It's only for a month so I can't do that much with it given my rate of actually uploading things, but I could finally change my username to match the one I use almost everywhere else! Yaaaaaaay! No more name confusion!

(Also, I still take commissions! Contact me for pricing stuff. :))

So I decided to try out deviantART's commission feature and set something up on my account page! Right now, only Lanschilandia-full-page-art-styled commissions are available through that. More might follow, or you can just contact me directly and we'll work something out! (I am only doing paid commissions currently.)

Well, what can I say. My webcomic, Tails of Lanschilandia, seems to be going nowhere and it's becoming more and more unbearable to work on it since I'm a horrible artist.

So, since I can't make a poll, I'm using the journal to ask this question: does anyone actually read or care about the comic? Would anyone care at all if it stopped updating?

I'm not confident that I will get any comments, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try.

I'm actually writing a journal for the first time ever as I don't have a deviation to put this on but still wanted to make this known, as a select few people may or may not have looked forward to this at some point in history. Some may remember my talking about a book that I created my dragon characters like Vellisia and Narinya for. Long story short, after way too many years and sort of coinciding with the end of the world, I've been working on finally getting it on Lulu, and here it is:

www.lulu.com/content/paperback…

(And here it is again, as an eBook: www.smashwords.com/books/view/… )

There probably won't be any Christmas or New Year's Eve deviations from me as I doubt I'm going to find the time for either, so maybe this can act as a replacement. (EDIT: Turns out there were =p) Enjoy (or don't, it's up to you ;p)!

There was going to be a tap-dancing monkey with a pineapple on his head at the bottom of the journal, but I ran out of pineapples.
