This drawing is part of a short series called "Model Organisms". [link]

Saccharomyces cerevisiae (aka, Baker's yeast) is THE model organism for eukaryotic organisms (basically, everything that is not a bacteria). Regulation of cell cycle, DNA damage and other basic features of eukaryotic cells have been studied in this tiny tiny yeast. [link]

They also have the annoying habit of showing up uninvited, contaminating other cell cultures.

NEXT:
Arabidopsis thaliana (the cress in stress)
Caenorhabditis elegans (the nematode on the road)
Drosophila melanogaster (aye, aye, fruit fly!)
Danio rerio (dont squish the zebrafish)
Mus musculus (the mouse from your warehouse)
