Kronlin's Joke

It was a little past midday when Kronlin walked back into camp, noticing the younger of his bondmates sitting outside the little hut. They were bent over a large rock, Saya, Tobias, and even Kiryoku, all three looking very focused and interested. Intrigued, Kron titled his head to one side and walked over to them.

"Whatever are you three doing?" he asked them quizzically.

"Painting!" Saya offered, beaming up at him with colorful splotches mottling her little face. Toby sat back away from the rock, where Kron noticed there were pieces of old parchment laying across it, dotted here and there with images.

"Velg was telling us all about some kind of human holiday called "halloween." She said that human boys and girls dress up as scary monsters and stuff and go out at night. So we were all painting what we'd want to be for Halloween if we lived on Earth."

"Halloween eh...sounds interesting." Kronlin crouched down next to the kids to inspect the paintings. "So, what would you guys want to be then?"

"Scurry!" Saya piped up again briefly, before resuming her frantic scribbling.

"Such a child..." Kiryoku muttered. "I'd want to be a Nyanid, so that I could actually scare other murrah...a stupid scurry isn't scary at all..."

"And what about you Toby? That's a strange looking picture you have there..." Kron eyed the little painting; a calico colored murrah with a pair of big black wings and ugly fangs.

"Velg said there's a really popular guy called 'bat man' that a lot of human kids dress up as. I thought it was silly at first...but then I thought having wings would be pretty cool."

"Hmm..." Kronlin stood up and pondered to himself.

Velg, are you there?

Always my dear Kronny, what's up?

Tell me more of this...bat man...

Kronlin stood and listened with growing intrigue as Velg described Batman and his enemies, and soon an idea began to form in his mind. He eyed the fawn's paint once more, and crouched down inspecting the small shell pots. "Can I borrow some of this?"

"Sure" Toby replied. "But we're all out of parchment, what are you going to do with it?"

"Oh....you'll see..." He dipped a hoof into the red, and his other into the black, and smeared them on his face. As he busied himself, the fawns began to snicker as a large shadow came forward and hovered over the resplendent male. Kronlin jumped up and spun around to see Chiron standing there looking quite confused. Seeing the mess on Kron's face...even more so.

"What on earth are you doing Kronlin, wipe off that paint, you're an embarrassment...

"Oh come on Chiron. It's just a little Halloween fun. Why so serious?"

Well...why so serious indeed....
