Manga/Anime Beauty - An Interview with Princess--Ailish    Heart

Manga/Anime / Traditional Media / Drawings / Colored Pencils

Hello all! Today is the beginning of a new month... perfect timing for an interview!

For this fifteenth issue, I interviewed one of the most awesome colored pencil manga artists on dA (and one who's been suggested to me many, many times!) - our dear russian friend Princess--Ailish . She's so kind, her art is vivid and colorful, and it stole my heart the moment I first saw Gwendolyn (as she's the very reason why I've gotten this username and became the Gwen you all know). But anyway, I hope you all enjoy this interview, and don't forget that, if you have suggestions for artists you'd like to see interviewed next, please comment here!
Let's get started :eager:

Please note: All the artworks featured on this article were chosen by the deviants themselves, and are considered by them their most meaningful pieces.

Bullet; Green Hey, Princess--Ailish! I hope you’re fine. Heart So, why don’t you start this interview presenting yourself to our friends here and telling us a bit about you?

Hello. Yes, I'm fine, thanks.
Well, what can I say... My real name is Kristina, I'm 19 and I live in Russia.
My nickname is Princess Ailish or Shalis. I used name from my favorite game - Sudeki. I draw since my childhood so painting is everything for me. I always try to find time for my hobby. Usually I draw anime pictures. I also like asian culture.

Princess Ailish from Sudeki by Princess--Ailish
"My favorite character from favorite game. I have many works of Sudeki, but this one I love so much."

Bullet; Green Now, why did you choose Manga/Anime as your art style to begin with?

I've tried many different styles, but anime the most clother and the most interesting for me. I really love those cute characters with impressive eyes.

Odin Sphere_Gwendolyn by Princess--Ailish
"I'm gamer and Odin Sphere is my second favorite game (first place takes Sudeki, of course) and Gweyndolyn is my favorite character from this game."

Bullet; Green On the follow-up of this question, what is your story with Traditional Art, and why did you choose to work with this media? And when it comes to Digital, do you work ever work with it, or you're exclusively a traditional artist?

I find myself traditional artist, 'cause I hardly draw on a tablet. In the beggining I didn't like drawing on tablet, I thought it was not comfortable at all. But now I'm trying to practice more and probably soon in my gallery there will be more digital works. But I'll never stop to draw traditional art :'3

Okami Amaterasu by Princess--Ailish
"My love to japanese mythology and love to Amateras-omikami from Okami combined in this work."

Bullet; Green It is said that digital art is “taking over the world”, per say, and it is indeed the medium used by most of the Manga/Anime artists nowadays. Many say it’s even easier to work with it than with traditional tools. Do you agree with that statement or not, and why? And what makes you, let's say, “go against the flow”?

I can't say that I'm against tablet. Everyone choose what they want. I think you do not need "to follow the fashion", just do what you like.

Bullet; Green Tell us: Traditional versus Digital: What are the advantages and disadvantages you see on each? And which one is your favourite (not necessarily to work with, but to your art taste)?

Mm.. good question. From my point of view, the most advantage of drawing on tablet: you can correct art on any step. :D (Big Grin) You can't do this with tradtional works, like "you have not right for mistake", but maybe especially this attracts me in drawing on paper.

Princess Serenity by Princess--Ailish
"One of my favorite works. I'm a big fan of Sailor Moon and I love drawing characters from this anime."

Bullet; Green So, on the subject 'tools of the trade' . From your artworks, we can notice your most used tools are colored pencils. Why did you choose this as your main working tool? And as we are on the subject, I'd also like to ask you to tell us, have you ever tried other traditional tools besides those?

In traditional art I prefer color pencils. I like the process of making lines. c//: Also I'm trying to draw with water color. It's not always good, but I'm still working on it. :`)

Bullet; Green We'd like to know: how, and when have you found deviantART for the first time?

About two years ago I registered on DA, but after I uploaded few works I forgot about my account. And then after six month I again uploaded my works on DA. :з

Madoka by Princess--Ailish
"I'm not strong in Digital Arts, but I work hard on it. I spend about month to make this work."

Bullet; Green On the topic of influences, what is the importance deviantART had to your art, since you joined this site as a member?

There is many perfect artists on DA who become my favorite. Their works are very inspiring for me. Besides on DA you can get adequate criticism on your works that helps you to see your mistakes and improve your skills.

"I'd like this works before I get DD. (and after this - especially). On this work - my OC Shim-Mi. She so cute, even if she hasn't so much details as OC."

Bullet; Green As we can see, you have already gotten a Daily Deviation.  You know, for the people who never had one, and also for those who already have one (or more), it is always great to hear about how others feel when getting this prestigious feature. So, how was it for you? Did that help or motivate you in any way?

Oh, it's amazing sense!! I thought that my skills on painting wasn't enought to get DD. I'm really happy and thanks again. ;з DD makes me more positive and inspire for making new works. I realized that you can not rest on our laurels. I will try to improve my skills in drawing! *o*

Inori Yuzuriha by Princess--Ailish
"Inori is very interesting personage with hard character. I like to drawing her."

Bullet; Green Now on the creativity field… What inspires you to create, and where do you get ideas from? Also, I'd like you to tell us a bit about 'external motivations'. Friends, family, etc., do they motivate you in any way, artistically speaking?

Of course I have a friends who have the same interests. They help me and always support me. Watching anime, listening to music, nature and video games are inspiring me.

Mistress of Swords by Princess--Ailish
"I'm rarely drawing with ink and this work, as I thought, one of the best in my gallery."

Bullet; Green As I couldn't leave out of this interview, now it's time to ask about… Artists who influenced and inspired you!I am a dummy! We all have them. On and off dA, tell us about them! La la la la

Artists as: Niki-UK , redjuice999
And also few russian artist: Kutty-Sark , Enijoi  are inspiring me

Bullet; Green As we can't help but wonder, have you ever tried working with different art styles other than Manga/Anime?

Yes, I am. I graduated art school with hight marks. There were mostly realism.

Sakura Miku by Princess--Ailish
"I love Vocaloids, especially Miku. I like many of her version and I promise to draw them *3*"

Bullet; Green So, we are almost ending this interview. Before so, I'd also like to ask: Have you ever considered doing art for a living, do you already work as one, or you intend to carry it on only as a hobby?

I love drawing, but it's still hobby for me. I'm studying at university and my profession don't connected with painting. It doesn't stop me. I already have experience as concept-artist for one novel and drew logo for sport shop. I want my future will be connect with drawing.

Bullet; Green As a finishing touch, we'd love to know: what sort of art-related projects are currently involved in?

At the moment - no one. But I have a couple of offers.

Ailish by Princess--Ailish
'My old work (2011). It has not some complicated details and actually it's looks like the sketch, but I like it."

Bullet; Green Ok, that's it!I am a dummy! now, tell us something random about yourself! :eager: by darkmoon3636

Hmm. I love sweets and cute clothes :D (Big Grin)
Soon I want to make cosplay. Hope, it will have success! Thank you!!
