Tianyulong confuciusi by vasix Tianyulong confuciusi by vasix
A monstrous work, done for so long due to my heavily busy, work-filled ass and mind. I'm a school house prefect, a steward, so to say the least, meaning that I'm occupied for more time than I ever have been. So, I did detail after detail of this picture and finally tonight, heaved a deep breath of air, a beautifully deep breath of air. not that this pic is as bright as my others, but at least it gives us all a symbolism of a dark mind, which is too occupied to be full of vibrancy.

Yet, this dinosaur is interesting for being the first discovered ornithischian with feathery filaments on its body, including a series of tall quills down its back and tail.

Tianyulong is part of a small Jurassic series I put myself into. however, my studies are in a controversial position too, thanks to my position-power has a price, and often a bitter price-and missing periods being a prefect, so this'll be one of my final deviations for the whole year.
This dinosaur is from the 158.5 million year old, Oxfordian Stage of the Jurassic, Tiaojishan Formation, one that includes the smaller denizens-but still cute, cool ones-of China at the time. This is a heterodontosaur, a "different-toothed lizard", so named due to its strange teeth. This things are less than 3 feet long, and are among the smallest ornithischian dinosaurs around.

Heterodontosaurs had strange teeth, with, for one thing, having tusks, somewhat like a tiny wild boar. This could mean that they ate like boars too, with the one in the foreground being a teenager who's caught a big, fat grub. The two young females behind him-sexual dimorphism is shown, at the base of those bristly, feathery quills and the skin colors in general- are probably keeping watch for enemies. The whole forest is rather mossy, which was a huge pain in the ass.
The whole picture isn't my best, and celebrates absolutely nothing, in particular.

brilliant piece! contrary to what you say, I like this one a lot among your works! :D
but if you wanted more "atmosphere" you could have made the background trees and foliage darker? idk really just a suggestion

My original plan was to make darker foliage with the dinosaur being light-as in, white-with the environment having some darkness, and a shaft of sunlight coming through the trees. Just altered my first concept after a while, is all.

Very nice work in the protopheaters. Also, I thought that Tianyulong were from Early Cretaceous :)

WOW, :omfg: this is amazing and must have taken very long. I really love the details, even the filigree structure of the dragonfly wings can be seen.

The adult Tianyulong is at least a bit over 2 feet long, this is a juvenile carrying the grub, so the size difference is different
