this year Finland celebrated the 100th anniversary of its independence, which was declared on December 6th.
the first country to recognize this fact was Soviet Russia, from which Finland had seceded.
its government issued a decree recognizing the independence of Finland on December 18th according to the Julian calendar, which was December 31st according to the Gregorian calendar. so, exactly 100 years ago.
it was approved by the highest Soviet executive body, the All-Russian Central Executive Committee [ВЦИК], only 4 days later, but according to the new calendar it was already 1918 and i wanted to use the number 1917 here.
and on December 6th i had no time to publish anything here, that's why i decided to commemorate the next relevant date.
anyway, hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää
! tai hyvää itsenäisyysvuotta
