1,2,3-1,2,3
Count and repeat.
1,2,3-1,2,3
You can't forget,
or you'll go insane.
Is the door locked?
Do I have my keys?
Is the stove turned off?
Yes! Yes! Yes!

1,2,3-1,2,3
Count and repeat.
1,2,3-1,2,3
Don't screw up,
or you'll have to start again.
Is this clean?
Did I wash my hands?
Is this food okay to eat?
Yes! Yes! Yes!

1,2,3-1,2,3
Count and repeat.
1,2,3-1,2,3
Never miss one,
or you'll feel pain.
I touched that with this finger,
did I remember to touch it with the other?
Ouch! I cut my hand.
Ouch! I need them to be the same.

1,2,3-1,2,3
Count and repeat.
1,2,3-1,2,3
Make sure to go in order,
or you won't be able to sleep.
Everything must be perfect.
There's nothing wrong with wanting order.
This must go here, not there,
not anywhere else.

1,2,3-1,2,3
Count and repeat.
1,2,3-1,2,3
You can't forget,
or you'll go insane.
So many questions,
too many rituals.
It's sometimes too hard to handle.
Is the door really locked?

Another poem I wrote about mental disorders. It obviously about OCD; trust me, not a fun thing to live with. Always paranoid, your mind questioning every judgement. Everything has to be done in sets, in order; it all has to be perfect. Hope this sheds some light on this disorder.

This is the second in my new series titled 'Misunderstood Disorders: A Look Into Mental Health'.

Wow!! This is really a great way to illistrate this. I am a little OCD myself but not that bad. I count things all the times and constently think everything over and over again till I have more questions than answers. I really love the way you used repitition in this.

Now I am curious where did you get the inspiration for this poem?

:) Thank you soo much! I really appreciate it. I love when people understand the messages in my work.

This came from personal experience. I'm very OCD; have lived with it forever. So I wanted to write a poem that was realistic to how I feel. It's count count count; over and over and over again. But I have a more obsessed compulsion about keys. It's one of my quirks. So that's why I threw that in the beginning and then the end, also.

It nice isn't it. :) I always say that one really great reader, follower, or veiwer who comments and understands is worth a hundred who just look and leave. NO screw that worth a thousand who just look and leave. I mean its like they weren't even there! I am always wondering what they think and its really frustrating!

Ah yeah keys. I can see that being at thing. My thing is that I remember numbers easily, am constintly counting things unless I am drunk, and then remember rooms by where I saw triangles or made triangles in them or by what I counted and where it was. This means when the furniture moves I notice. Or when my dad buys a new DVD rack, I notice. I won't notice your hair cut but if you change the number of posters on the wall I have been counting the same way for years I will notice in like two seconds. No one else in my family counts like I do. I only started talking about it recently too. I never realize it was weird till I started talking about it.

Exactly!! I am like great you faved but I don't know what that means. Did you just sorta like it and put it in a really pointless playlist you are never going to look at again or did you show it to all your friends and totally love it but didn't think of commenting? sigh.

Right?! I mean, if I like something, I will always fave because most people like feed on faves, but I always post a comment. If I only want to show my friends, I bookmark the page so I can easily go back, show them, then delete the bookmark.

Thnk you so much for the kind words. And that's exactly right! People act as though we can stop whenever or we're doing it for attention. It's uncontrollable.

Not at all. There are varying levels. My poem delves into the more extreme side, the side that plagues me. So yes, I understand.

Pretty good piece, I liked it, especially for the prompt. The use of repetition of those three verses is perfect for this poem. I appreciated also the ending.

Writing is just so therapeutic. And I'm sry bout ur family. It sucks ur mom won't acknowledge it. It rly is easier when u have ppl who at least try to understand. My dad gets annoyed w me a lot but e does understand and my mom is even more helpful. I hope it gets better for u. My bad days come n go but it's been gettin better slowly.

Yes, I love writing. Even it's just a random thing. And don't worry about my family, I wasn't old enough to remember them actually being together. :p But I'm trying to convince my mom to take me to a doctor or something. And I have a few friends that understand me so it's not too bad. (: and that's good that you're getting better C:

Same. Writing anything. Half my stuff never gets finished because I just need to do something in that moment to stop a panic attack. :) I'm so happy to hear you have some people helping you. And yes, if you can manage to convince her, a doctor can do wondrous things for you. :) And thank you!

mental disorders are VERY hard to live with, scary part is there's different levels even on many disorders out there today. I've encountered people with a few, and including myself i face with a disorder. Very nice work :)

Thank you very much. My intention is to just educate people who don't understand them.

Yes, varying degrees with everything. A lot of people have OCD, but 85% of them are not as severe as described in my poem.

I'm very glad you liked it. :)

yes i highly agree, not alot of people do have a severe degree of this disorder, but there are some who think its the end of the world just for experiencing minor situations involving such.
your welcome, i did enjoy it. Believe it or not, this is the first in a very long time I've read this fully described for the disorder it is in "full throttle". I'm impressed. :)

Really nicely done. I don't often find people who write about OCD in a way that is actually reflective of the disorder. Very good. :)

ADD is really serious, also. It's hard to concentrate and you feel like you can't get anything done. People call you lazy and spacey, but you can't do anything about it. It's a disorder that can be helped with therapy and medication, but it never goes away. I feel for your friend; it must have been hard for them in school.

I completely understand. A lot of mental health disorders get mixed with depression. Adding to the people in her life not understanding leads to a very difficult time. That's why it's so important for her to have someone like you in her life; someone who may not completely understand, but who one hundred percent cares and knows it's not her fault.

Most people do; it's easy to relate to and it makes it easy to help others once you've experienced yourself.

I care a lot and I make sure I'm educated on the disorder before I even attempt to cover it. I have OCD and Agoraphobia; a lot of people don't understand and I did a lot of research myself. I wanted to understand and know I wasn't alone. Right now I'm studying Psychiatry; I'm hoping to help people and make sure they know they're not the only ones feeling how they're feeling.
