The Key to my Art
(The whole, not a part)
Comes from behind
Like a clock that whores wind
Before the hands freeze
In Time's icy breeze.
The symbols of pain:
Death's dark bloody rain,
The Demons that lurk
In the gathering murk,
Knives that cut deep
Through Life's fitful sleep
Are alleg'ries all
Through which nightmares crawl.
But when dark dreams end,
Around the road's bend
Come figures more whole
That blacken my soul.
I hold the door's key,
Given to me
By fingers unclean
Which aren't what they seem.

I cannot expel
Or send back to Hell
The hordes of the Dead
That live in my head.
