Dark Waters by Valyavande Dark Waters by Valyavande
Hello everyone!
Seems like this is my first serious painting this year. I think the backgrounds are starting to play a bigger part in my paintings. Besides that I don't have much to say.  But I'd like to raise a bit awareness for the INSPIRED Art book from the ArtOrder, as it is the first serious artbook I'm included in. And if my art isn't an argument for it - just see what amazing stuff the others did!

This is a wonderful picture you have graced us with.  I will admit I was kinda hoping it was the old cartoon Dark Waters fan art but this is great all the same.

Huh, sorry, I never heard of that cartoon. I have no idea what it is about, I just thought the phrase makes a good title here. Anyway, thank you very much for comment spacewolflord =)

There is such a powerful story behind this piece, I just know it! ...I just wish I knew exactly what it is. The sense of an overall scene and story is what really drew me to this piece, and is what's going to make me think about it all day.

Maybe it gives you more ideas about the story here if you take a closer at the reflections in the water =) It even helps there to download the bigger version. But I'm really happy to read that it makes you think! I really wanna achieve that people feel something of the story and emotions behind the piece. Thanks a lot Melian!

That's a great painting ! I love the mood, and you're getting really good with vegetation ! That said I always found that backgrounds played a huge part in your paintings :)

Well, usually I didn't try to avoid backgrounds... I think I'm just changing my viewpoint on them. Seeing them more as characters as well and as a bigger part of the storytelling, less something that I need to get rid of blank spaces. Does that make sense? But maybe it doesn't make for an obvious change in the paintings. Anyway, thank you a lot for your comment =)

Reminds me of Swan Lake. At least some of it does. Nice picture by the way.^^

Thanks a lot RainbowFay! I notice, I'm not even too familiar with the swan lake story. On the other hand, black/white symbolic is most of the time pretty obvious . I guess that makes for easy connections with similar setups

You're welcome. I think I should tell you that the story of Swan Lake is performed by ballet dancers. If you look up on google, you'll know that the story is all about.

I know that it is a ballet. And I know the really famous theme song or what it is. I worked once in a company there we used that music as a ringtone for our telephone. And we had an occasion there that thing was ringing the whole day which brought me into a love-hate relationship with the music XD

Absolutely gorgeous -- there is so much depth in it, in both the depicted environment and the emotion. Your treatment of the light and color is exquisite. <3

Thank you very much Kristina! This feels like actually nailed what I was going for, which feels pretty good and like an improvement. Overall I try to use color and light better planned regarding the story I want to tell or the emotion I want to convey
