Deviation Actions

Thanks!
Hi! I need your help.
I am working on my dissertation (I'm finishing my studies) and I'm going to write about deviantArt. Some details I will add later but for now I need to know what deviantArt means.
If you are a deviant who are you?
Does deviant mean pervert? (in general in polish we can translate in this way).
I know there are many, many idioms so what "deviant" exactly means?
I couldn't find any explanation but I hope you can help me and tell... who am I or who are you

Thank you for your comment!

With all due respect, but this should have been noted:
t is as simple as looking it up on the dictionary:
deviant:
adj.
Differing from a norm or from the accepted standards of a society.
n.
One that differs from a norm, especially a person whose behavior and attitudes differ from accepted social standards.
This is Putting Deviant in its proper perspective....outside of opinions.

I would like to add that a child can be acting deviant if s/he acts in a way that their parents don't consider normal.
Like the teenager decides to be a rocker and uses strong black makeup. Her/His parents may find her behaviur deviant because of that.
Deviant means actually 'different'. So I guess in a bowl of alpe, a lemon would look deviant.
Hope I helped!

The actual dictionary meaning of the word deviant is 'a person who does or is something different from what is considered normal' so it is often used to mean pervert. It is also used to mean an artist who does unusual art. It can also be used to mean a person leaves a traveled path to take a less-traveled path.

The word devious usually refers to someone who is trick, sly but somehow inherently bad, or at least not very nice. However when I think of it in the context of this site, I think of it more in line with the being sly and tricky. To be devious, is to be outside the social norm, and that is usually considered a bad thing. I think this site is trying to take that inherent bad connotation to turn it on it's head and say that being different isn't bad and being devious means you are clever and fresh. That's how I have always viewed it.

A deviant is anyone (or anything) that differs from what is considered "normal." A lot of the time people automatically associate "deviant" with something sexual or perverted, but that's not what it actually means, it's just gained that connotation over the years.
Devious, on the other hand, is usually associated with someone who is "sly" or a "trickster" in a bad way, like someone who will trick others into doing what they want. Sometimes villains in fiction with "world domination" schemes are described as "devious."
So, in the context of deviantART, deviant would just mean art that's "different" from the norm, or that the site itself is different from other art sites in that it allows pretty well any kind of art.

I'm not a native English speaker but I would say deviant could be a synonym for outsider and many artists are outsiders, they're supposed to be part of those people able to think out of the box and mix up concepts and materials to create new symbols and shapes.
That's the meaning I saw in deviantART and being a deviant when I joined the community and I still think so.

for me deviant means representation of a person which stands out of an ordinary society rules..therefore in deviantArt i understand it as a person who stands out of crowd with his/her art...it is a bit funny that dA is the most crowded art page that
however i have to say i am not a native speaker, in fact i am from neighbour country of Slovakia.
I recommend to search dA for answers to how deviant is ment in the name of the site, you surely gonna find yourself or ask gallery moderators or senior members for explanation or link.

Deviant to me is an artist of some kind; dA-user and part of this community
devious is... not ordinary? Hard to explain
Not exactly distant, but more like "abnormal".
Deviant in general means a person that acts outside of ordinary/normal things, especially in 'social norms' (<- at least according to wiktionary).
