Shot this in a newly built area of Edinburgh's financial centre.

I originally set-up and shot this without any human involvement, but I thought it work work better with a figure in the image to give a sense of scale. Due to the static nature of the shot, I decided to shoot using a slow shutter speed so as to capture a sense of movement in the person walking by.

Various people came and went (including a cyclist, but I was a little too late in firing the shutter to get him where I wanted him in the frame), but it was this woman, with her bold purple coat, that I knew was going to work very well. The dash of bright colouring offsets the lighter palette of the environment nicely, even if I do say so myself.

Thanks in advance for any :+fav:'s. :ahoy:

EDIT: It was a lovely surprise to log in and find out that I've received a DD for this shot. Thanks very much if you've taken the time to view it, and indeed to add it to your :+fav:'s. Thanks also to =PatrickRuegheimer for suggesting it, and to @sine-out for featuring it. :peace:

I love this picture even though I truly dislike the financial district which replaced so much of old Edinburgh. the composition is just brilliant

I would love to feature this work in a Urban Interactive Project, linking community and the mobile digital world around us. It is a great piece. Nice work and patience. I think i would have enjoyed the bicycle shot too. I will link you, if we feature the work. Thanks!

You know, I keep meaning to go back through your gallery and have a good dig to see what I can find, but this is genuinely very good! You're absolutely right, the splash of humanity is an excellent addition to a well excecuted exposure. May I ask where the photograph was taken? Am I correct in thinking that I was next to or near the big HBOS building on Lothian Road? Congratulations on the DD by the way, awarded at least this time to a worthy subject.

Thank you, sir!

Yes, it is near the Lothian Road area. Just head along Semple street and you're there.

Amazing eye for composition and subject matter. This is the best photograph I've seen in a while. Reminds me of Cartier-Bresson (except in color, of course :))

I felt the opposing nature of the shots two main elements would work well (at least when I was visualising it), so I'm glad others feel it's worked too.

Great work taking the time to get the composition you wanted. You are right that the human element adds more interest to it, while the reflections in the windows make it all the more fascinating, framed by the softer coloured wall. It's unfortunate that the lamppost wasn't black to add more contrast between it and the wall (how dare they not think of these things!) but you can't have everything all the time. ;)

:+fav: :)
