Wow. I used to be obsessed with drawing angels. In my 20's and 30's I drew angels ALL the time. As a Christian, I do believe in the existence of angels and demons. And reading a lot of Frank Peretti gave me some great mental imagery of their battles. Then somewhere along the line, I just stopped drawing them as much. Or at all. My first serious faith based character was an angelic hero called Battlewing. Not a great name, I know. He was an angel who had been defeated by a major demon and his minions and was then cast down to earth. The 'government' found him unconscious and modified him with technology to try and use him as a weapon but when he awoke they couldn't hold onto him. He is an angel after all. But he's stuck with the earthly material they bonded to him and those corporeal parts keep him from being able to return to his celestial home. Originally I drew him in silver and gold armor with his mechanical parts evident. Now, I think he'd try and hide them since they are the reason he's unable to go home so I gave him the above look. I think I like it.
