Amy Rose is an excitable hedgehog who craves the normal slices-of-life, despite often finding herself in the mist of action and adventure, where she is more than capable of holding her own. Amy is an average swimmer who often swims for sheer the fun of it, relaxation or social reasons, she doesn't race nor is sporty or overly athletic in nature, although she is naturally fit from her adventures and takes care of her body and health.
The main water competition Amy partakes in is breath-holding, without any consideration for the extreme risks involved in doing so.

She spends a lot of time at the pool and beach, but most of it on land to chat, hang-out, ogle, socalise or just simply relax and sun-bake. When she does swim her time in a pool is often spent casual, clinging to the side or a noodle, or splashing around happily. For the ocean or lake she often doesn't go further than her waist during social events, but the times she swims out further or beyond her depth in the sea are often done at at an sudden unplanned impulse for fun, exploration or peer-pressure. She also is known to jump off cliffs or dives off weirs in a playful fashion.

Being a tween and a good swimmer in the pool, Amy thinks she is too old for lifeguards or the need for supervision and she is extremely self-confident in her own abilities, finding water safety a boring, ignorable subject for which she considers herself well-above.
Yet her casual attitude and lack of experience with currents or the untamed ocean could easily lead to her quickly becoming overwhelmed and panicking, screaming out in uncontrollable terror. Amy can become quick to tire under stress, doesn't know how to get out of rips or stay calm, she'd be unlikely to help herself in an emergency.

While Amy is on paper a good swimmer, she can often become at risk of drowning as she generally puts herself in danger or high-risk scenarios without consideration that she is doing so or the belief that it could happen to her, all the while innocently diving out with a wink and a smile.

Fun Fact: Amy secretly hopes Sonic will never become a strong swimmer so that always he needs to cling or stay close to her.
