Newgen Games Widget v1.1 by usteg Newgen Games Widget v1.1 by usteg
And here's a widget to store Games

To use, just create a folder and dump in game shortcuts. After that, right click on the widget and set the folder path to said folder, and pick either a color or image background, and voila!

All credits go to ftware for Newgen

EDIT: I've updated the Games widget to now be sorted in a grid-like format, which you can adjust freely, hence v1.1 is ready for use. V1.2 will be coming soon, which will merely have a proper icon, and will be featured on the Store

HOW ABOUT AN OPEN WIDGET TO LAUNCH ANY SHORTCUT APP RATHER THAN USING the start menu widget to all programs not that its not cool

I'm sorry, it has been ages since I logged on as I've been caught up in multiple projects. If you don't mind waiting a little longer, I am going to release a better version of this widget (one that doesn't require you to create an external folder full of shortcuts, and instead lets you add tiles that you can fully customize, among other features), which I should have completed by December.

I hope you won't forget to upload it for V11?
knowing that you are busy.

Hi Usteg,

I got a mail from Neeraj that you are trying to update this widget for Newgen V.11. When will it be there. It would be great if so!

greetings,
Jelle

Yo. Widget is working great. But having a slight problem. No images appear in the grids, only the text. The same is happening with the Pictures V2 widget.

I'll need to know what version of Windows you're running, and what version of Newgen too. I have not tested my widgets on Newgen 9, so there are bound to be bugs here and there (somebody told me the widgets don't work on 9). Any other feedback would be useful (such as do you use .lnk files in the target folder, etc)

Ah. Sorry. I'm using Windows XP SP3 with Newgen 8. I'm not sure if this is the correct procedure, but I basically copied the shortcuts from the desktop into the folder I would be using.

that would usually be the correct procedure indeed. Mmm, I'll need some time to do some research into the problem (could be platform-related to XP) and hopefully I can find a solution

Yes i tried also the other widgets you made, but the same problem.
I think you are right, it is only for newgen 8.0
I would love it if you will make them also possible for 9.0, because the ar great.

Hi there,
This is great.
I tried it, but doesn't work.
I downloaded it, put it in a folder called Game under folder Newgen.
Made a subfolder with the the gameshortcuts.
Now i dont see the gamewidget in Newgen. How can i made it visible?

did you set the folder path in the settings of the widget? Shouldn't really matter where you put the folder as long as you have the path set. Right-clicking on the widget will show you the settings option

I have set the folderpathh in the games.config,
but i cannot create the widget in Newgen.
I cannot create it with pin widget\tile or pin application or cannot find the widget in the store.

I think also; why is this widget not there in the store, it is a good widget?

i haven't submitted it to the store as there are still a few things that i need to add/edit (like a proper icon) before I can deem it complete.

mmm, most odd. Can you take a screenshot of your widgets directory? You have to make sure that there's only one level of folder above for Newgen to read the widget (aka .../Widgets/Games/, not .../Widgets/Games/Games/)

Yes this is odd.
I have the directory as:
C:\Program Files (x86\Ftware\Newgen\Widgets\Games
In folder widgets there are: calendar, clock, computer, control panel, pictures, etc.
In folder Games there are your files and also links for games (i have also made the config to this folder.

Note: I have Windows 7 64bit
But newgen and its widgets works very good.

mmm, open games.config with notepad and try to see if the folder path is set to the folder you want

This is what I have written in games.config:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Settings xmlns:xsd="[link]" xmlns:xsi="[link]">
<Path>C:\Program Files (x86)\Ftware\Newgen\Widgets\Games\</Path>
<GridLimit>3</GridLimit>
<UseBgImage>true</UseBgImage>
<BgImagePath>C:\Program Files (x86)\Ftware\Newgen\Widgets\Games\Voyager.jpg</BgImagePath>
</Settings>

I made my own Backgroundimage and put it also in the same folder as where all your files are (folder Games).
What is still wrong?

When I start newgen I do not see your widget.

Works fine... Thank you. (How did I miss this widget?)
As ~kum1te has pointed out, once I open widget, "Some apps have a tiny icons so the big square appears transparent with a tiny icon inside while some apps have a huge icon that fits the entire square"
Ditto.

that seems to be related to the shortcuts themselves, as certain icon images are drawn from a dll and thus come out really, really small.

In the coming update, there will be added option to change the icon image to address the issue.

Can this widget be spawned so we can have shortcut folders to Tools, Communication, Media, Graphic apps...?

That would be awesome. Thx in advance.

Can you add a background color to the icon like Newgen does it? Some apps have a tiny icon so the big square appears transparent with a tiny icon inside while some apps have a huge icon that fits the entire square.

Okay,Ignore my last comment,I got it working
I've installed the app but there's something wrong
I already pinned the widget and right clicked and set the folder path
to my games files, but when I tried to open the widget I only see
a black background and the title "Games" and nothing else
my game doesn't show up there.

mmm, did you select to use an image background? Also, in the games folder, did you place shortcut files, or did you take the .exe files directly? You'll need to create shortcuts for each game before dropping it into the folder

No,I didn't but I've just changed my background now but my game are not in there
I created a shortcut file and put it in my folder,C:\Users\Toshiba\Documents\Games
I set the folder path to that one. I restarted my computer and still it doesn't
show up. ):

if that's the case, there are two things i want you to check:

- go to c:\program files (x86)\newgen team, ftware\newgen\widgets\games and open up games.config with a notepad. See if <Path></Path> is set to your wanted location. If it isn't, then just insert your location like this:

<Path>C:\Users\Toshiba\Documents\Games</Path>

and save it

- also, change your folder view to details and see if the file-type is really a shortcut, as the widget only recognizes .lnk (shortcut-type) files, and nothing else.

Oh I think I found the problem, the first one was checked, nothing was wrong with it
but..the file has a different format;internet shortcut (.url) I tried messing around
and creating a different shortcut but it keeps copying the file in(.url) format,The other
desktop files are in (.lnk) format except my game,It was downloaded off steam though..

I tried looking for a converter on google but no luck I guess.

aah, so you got your games off steam. If that's the case, there's a way to create the shortcuts manually.

go to c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\ and you'll find all your installed games there. Enter each folder, find the .exe file and right-click, and create a shortcut. Drag these shortcuts into your desired folder, and voila

to make it clear but unfortunately I have exams coming
up and I'm currently busy.

Where is the widget?
I can not find the widget in your zip-file.

guess i should've checked the file after uploading it to dA, it converted the .nwp widget file into a .zip file

but, you can still install the widget as it is. Just drag the Games folder inside the .zip file to the Widget folder where you installed Newgen, and voila, its automatically installed

will do :)

but in the meantime, you need to install Newgen first (link is [link] , download the latest version).

Then, unzip the Games .zip file above, and move the Games folder found inside to C:\Program Files (x86)\Newgen Team, ftware\Newgen\Widgets (drop it straight into the Widgets folder where Newgen is installed)

Once that's done, run Newgen, left click on the right side of your screen and a sidebar should show. Right-click on the sidebar and select "Pin Widgets", and you should see the Games widget listed
