Derpy Hooves: Thanks Cloud...
Lily Blossom: Are you still worried about the adoption?
Derpy: What else can I do? I can't raise two foals on my own...I don't even know who the father is.
Cloud: Then let's find him! We could ask for DNA-samples of all the male ponies from the Griffin-caves and...
Derpy: No...Sorry sis... I can't just force a stallion to help me raise them because of what the griffins did. But its not the kid's fault either...
Lily: You want to keep them don't you?
Derpy: Yes...
Lily: Then you should keep them. You're not alone. You have me and your father, and Cloud Kicker would probably love to help as well.
Cloud: *too busy playing with the kids* Who's a cute little unicorn? You are!
Derpy: Do you mean it?
Lily: They say it takes a village to raise a foal. Your babies will be fine.
Derpy: Oh thank you mom! Thank you so much!

A little back-story for Dinky the Time Traveller.
Yes, Dinky and Sparkler are twins in that universe How is that possible you ask? How were they conceived and who is their daddy?

As for their age, that's because Dinky and Sparkler each got different genes from their semi-immortal daddy. Dinky grows a lot slower than a normal filly.

And before you say this doesn't fit your headcanon...of course it doesn't. That's why its your headcanon.
I don't even like that phrase cuz I'm not even going to pretend I think this is canon. Its just fanfiction. Deal with it.
