On Paper

As close as I get to political art, I suppose--the kanji on her face reads "woman" (and if it doesn't, then the piece may be meaningless or unintentionally hilarious, depending on how I screwed it up) and you could read all kinds of things into it about the objectification of women, or you could just go "Hmm, chick with paper taped to her head." I suspect the latter may be the more valid, but hey, I just paint the art, I don't interpret it.

These are arguably some of the best skin tones I've ever pulled off in a physical painting (as opposed to digital, where I get to break out the airbrush.) They were mostly achieved by layering acrylic ink and colored pencil over and over again. This is an unbelievably tedious process, and the only way I was able to do it was because I was hunched over my desk neurotically awaiting the election returns ALL DAMN DAY on Tuesday, and had no ability to concentrate on anything but scribbling mindlessly over and over again.

So, while I'm pleased with the resulting skin tones, I'm sort of glumly afraid that I may not be able to duplicate this effect until, oh, 2012 or so. Oh well.

Original is mixed media, 12 x 24 on gessoboard. Original is for sale, prints are available, send a note or visit [link] for details.
