Description
I was looking at a whole bunch of Day of the Dead sugar skulls, and of course y'all know my obsession with rodents--and some of you know my obsession with Southwestern art, having spent an aesthetically sensitive chunk of my childhood in Arizona--and when all these things are thrown together and stirred violently, it resulted in a painting.
Which I got halfway through, realized was all wrong, promptly abandoned, and painted this instead.
Digital, an extension of the megascribble technique I do physically, only finer and with brighter colors than I can manage with paint. Stylistically it obviously owes a lot to one of my artistic idols, John Jude Palencar, who I would like to be when I grow up. The turquoise and coral worked all through the shadows are probably due to my painting instructor in college, the late Jerry Rudquist, who always said that as long was the shape was right, you could make things any color you wanted and people would assume it was the lighting. This is some of the most valuable artistic advice I have ever been given.
Anyway! Digital, Painter 7, intuos 2 tablet, etc. Prints are available! The 8.5 x 11 are $10, the jumbo 13 x 19 are $20, plus shipping, and can be ordered at Red Wombat Studio: [link]
