Jade Doe

This was kind've a follow-up to "Puss-In-Boots Retires"--I really liked the textures, so I set out to do something similiar--on purpose, this time! Unfortunately, I kinda shot myself in the foot by working too large--all the great grainy grittiness I was getting in the original (which was 4800 x 6000 or so) is turned smooth in this much smaller jpg. Darn. Well, that's the purpose of experimentation, I s'pose...

Inspiration for this one was a Chinese poem, actually--a buddy of mine sent me a nifty book that included a poem with the lines "In the wilds lies a dead doe/Wrapped and bound with white rushes/There was a girl fair as jade." Presumably the deer's a metaphor--the girl's been killed by a jealous suitor--but it was such a striking image that I wanted to draw this happy deer-girl...well, I guess that she'll get murdered here shortly, so it's not that happy, but...um...right. It made sense in my head, damnit.
