Festering Dodochicken by ursulav Festering Dodochicken by ursulav
Sings-to-Trees was the sort of elf that the other elves find a little embarassing in their dedication to nature. He loved all earth's creatures, even the stinky and vicious ones. He could wax eloquent about the majestic buzzard, the worthy slime mold, the noble carrion fly. He used every part of the buffalo, including bits that the buffalo might have preferred he throw away. He knew things about compost that compost itself was previously unaware of.

Even he, however, had to admit there was something unloveable--maybe the foul odor, maybe the low IQ, quite possibly the tendency to bite its own head off as a defensive response*--about the festering dodochicken.
---

One day at the coffee shop, I was doodling a classic fantasy elf for a change, and something about his expression led inexorably to his buddy, the festering dodochicken.

Small prints are available for a mere $10 at [link] and jumbo for $20, plus shipping. Drop a line!

*Its somewhat novel reasoning was that nothing could possibly hurt it if it took itself out first.

Umm... is it even physically possible to bite off one's own head??? xD

I love this elf character, by the way! :D

That's a dour-looking little fuck, alright...maybe he's grumpy because of the 'festering' bit.

One wonders how he can bite his own head off...seeing as he seems to have a toothless mouth and what appears to be some kind of nose-like fronthorn and nothing resembling teeth. Then again, biting your own head off is a physics-defying feat in and of itself.

That's great! I actually have a character like this in my DnD game- only he would think that the festering dodochicken might be good to eat, because he's optimistic like that.

I love the colors, and the dodochicken is awesome in its dodochickenness.

Do you have a sketch of it Biting it's own head off? Preferably in comic strip form so as to see it step by step.

I absolutely adore this, the dodochicken is probably one of the cutest ugly things I've ever seen. sort of like bulldogs, except I'd think bulldogs might smell nicer! I'd love to see a roost of them.

HAHA! I love it. The greens are really awesome. I really like the scribble patterns on the sings-to-trees sleeves, and the dodochickens beak is really interesting too. Expression is always powerful. Great job!

I find myself trying to work out the mechanics of that defensive response.... and getting confuddled, quite. His face looks a bit weird... maybe too smooth or flat... or it's his left cheekbone being all pokey... or those weird muscles over his nose... but the overall feel is slimy and weird. In a slimy and weird way. ; )
