My suits of larp-foam-armour are literally falling apart. The oldest parts of this one are from 2005, the helmet is from 2009. The foam has become brittle and many glued parts can easily be pulled off.
Time for a makeover.
Left pic: 2009, right: 2024.
What started as a repaint turned into a conversion:
First any loose parts and all fasteners were reglued.
The "wings" on the breast have been repositioned with a third "tier" added to the front, thus making the armour much more bulky. Detail was added by cutting into the foam with a soldering iron and applying prominent lines with window-colour- contour.
The helmet has been covered with cloth-glue composite and details in window-colour-contour were added. The off-the-shelf- venetian mask that is too small for me https://larp-monsterbau.de/assets/images/25R4Variante1IS7.jpg was substituted with a sculpted one made of composite. The new mask has an elongated chin thus now completely covering the face.
The whole armour has first been repainted black with a mixture of glue and acrylics (50/50), thus creating a stable but flexible new surface.
The faded reddish bronze colour has been changed to gold drybrush and the black fur on the shoulders was painted gold.
Which makes the pharaoh´s warlord ready for another 10-15 years of service.
