Firstly, this wonderful photo is aptly named. It makes the viewer ponder about the meaning of life itself. The desire of this little sapling to survive in the relentless and harsh nature which revolves around survival of the fittest is clearly shown here. It shows the strength and resolve of even a small plant like this which ignorant folk like us usually take no notice of. It inspires. It gives hope.

Yes, the photographer has made the beauty of something so typical as a little sapling like this captured in all its splendor. By now, one would realize by the various techniques used by the photographer, to achieve such an astounding effect; it shows the love, sweat and toil the photographer has put to finding that right moment where everything: lighting, shadow, composition, alll comes into place to form this thought-provoking picture now in front of our eyes. It shows the photographer's experience, those steady hands that cannot afford to shake, the keen eye that finds beauty even in the most typical of things...

The intentionally blurred backdrop lets us focus on the main subject - the sapling, without making the photo seem too dull at the same time. Little beams of light that seep their way to the forest floor through the thick leaves, add some flavor to a predominantly leafy and earth tones of color. One can also see the trunks of tall trees in the background. This further reinforces the will of the sapling to fight its way upward and one day become great like those before it. Other saplings at the back reflect the competition - the obstacles waiting for this sapling as it progresses through its epic journey.

We, as humans, have much to learn from this little plant. If only we could see the hope shining upon us all this time, we would all have the chance to grow into a great tree.
