“Any chance you learned anything about a fountain?”
“A fountain? No, it’s only been a short while perhaps some text somewhere would mention a fountain but why does that matter?”
“As it turns out this place is a labyrinth housing a fountain of immortality.”
As they begin to walk down to the stadium floor Cethlenn responds.
“Oh, so you want to know more about it so you can smas-” Cethlenn is interrupted as Aengus covers her mouth.

Zol was confused for a moment and narrowed their eyes, this was VERY unexpected. After a moment Aengus nodded his head towards the knight before speaking to Zol.
“Well? You asked how far would someone go for immortality. What do you want me to do to this arrogant fool?”
Zol took a moment before asking, “What need do you have for immortality? You seem rather against it wouldn’t you agree?”
Aengus chuckled, “Isn’t it obvious? You mentioned a vial, so I would assume it possesses the means for this immortality you speak of? I simply want to destroy it, so no one can get it as no one deserves such a fate. No matter the intention.” Aengus looks back down to the knight in disgust.

The two moved towards the left seating area, using it as cover to peak over and down onto the stadium floor itself to see two figures in mid-discussion. One seemed to be a knight of some sort mainly listening to a masked floating being in blue garb in front of him.
“If you really want the vial you must prove to me that you are worthy to let you even attempt to obtain it.”
“How do I prove that I am worthy of such a chance then, Zol.”
“Your reason for wanting to obtain the vial while a noble one could be said by anyone. Saving a dying family member… rather generic wouldn’t you agree.”
The knight clenches up, it’s clear the being Zol struck an obvious nerve.
“The real question is what would you be willing to do for that family member. How far would you go to save them? As you can’t obtain immortality with “Noble” intentions.”

The two begin walking back to the stadium floor, Aengus continued.

Zol looks over to them, squinting their eyes at the two, a strange quadruped creature standing next to Zol. Its head was a largemouth housing an equally large eye. Cethlenn nudges Aengus.

Whispering Cethlenn says, “Their stealing your aesthetic dear.”

Aengus just lets out a sigh as Zol speaks.

“What is that supposed to mean? Might I ask.”

Cethlenn jumps slightly, not expecting Zol to hear.

Aengus responds, “Don’t worry about it Zol. She was just making a little, “In-Joke”. It wasn’t a good one if it’s any consolation.”

“Oh?” Cethlenn quickly responds. “Says mister, “after I get burned at the stake I’ll jump out of the ashes as a skeleton and scare them. It will be “Hilarious”!” Might I ask who it was keeping me up all that night screaming as they were restoring their flesh?”

Cathleen placed her hands on her hips, with a disgruntled expression as she was “Patiently” waiting for a response.

“You didn’t say it wasn’t funny.” Aengus responded with a smug smile.

“You gave an old man a heart attack!”

“Okay. But who brings their Grandfather to a burning at the stake!”

“They bring everyone, it’s literally the only entertainment they had! They don’t expect a skeleton to jump out when it’s over!”

Zol loudly coughs as Aengus and Cethlenn look over to Zol. Now that Zol has their attention, Zol makes a statement.

“I’m a busy person, can you wrap this up or stop for a moment while I let you into the labyrinth?”

Cethlenn responds, “Very well, this better be worth it.”

Zol just rolls their eyes and snaps their fingers, as he does so the mouth of the creature opens to an extreme extent as the eye vanishes. It is soon replacing with the view of another location, somewhere inside the labyrinth. Zol beings to inform the two.

“On the other side of this doorlet is the plaza, throughout this “Tournament” you will eat, drink and sleep here with other competitors. Try to… play nice.”

Aengus quickly responds, “Will do!”

As he grabs Cethlenn by the hand and leads her into the doorlet she quickly shouts.

“Wait! What’s exactly is a doorlet? I have to know!?”

Before getting dragged through by Aengus. After they go through the doorlet it closes its mouth and returns to its normal state. Zol places their hand over their face.

“They might just end up being more of a pain than anything.”

A faint slithering can be heard and a snake made of wood-like substance covered in foliage approaches Zol.

“You wished to see me Bosss?”

Zol lets out a sigh, “I told you not to refer to me as such… no matter I have more important things to worry about right now Snek.”

“What do you mean Bosss, is there anything that you’re oh so faithful ssservent can do for you?”

Zol pinches the bridge of their nose as Snek said “oh so faithful ssservent” and then responds.

“I just let in another competitor to the plaza, a tall guy called Aengus with a ridiculously long ponytail and a scar across his nose, he’s a bit of a wildcard as I have no idea what his deal is or where he came from. I just need you to keep an eye on him and his wife Cethlenn, she isn’t competing, but I don’t like how actively she is looking into the labyrinth and its knowledge. It could cause, “Issues” down the line. Telling me immediately if anything of note happens with them. Whether it’s them mentioning how they got here and or found the labyrinth, if they are acting suspicious, the wife actually finds out something she isn’t meant to. “Anything” of note.”

Snek tilts its head, “Afraid they might follow in your footsteps bosss?”

Zol shoots daggers at Snek after it mentions that. Snek knows to drop that topic immediately.

“I’ll get to it right away bosss.”

Snek then begins to slither off back off into the labyrinth. While Zol simple stares off into the distance, deep in thought for a moment before heading off them self.

As it probably isn't clear Snek is Cuahcoatl, due to them only interacting with Zol I used the nickname Zol has for them.

Aengus placed his right foot on the knight’s chest along with flipping the sword around pointing the blade's tip at the knight’s throat. He then looked at Zol expectantly.

“Interesting, I haven’t seen someone with the intention to destroy the vial before… Also, yes, it possesses water from the fountain of immortality which provides whoever drinks it with said immortality.”

Aengus looks back to Zol raising an eyebrow.

Zol takes a glance at the barely conscious knight, perhaps a “Wildcard” might spice things up. At the very least Zol felt he might discover more about this unexpected visitor. Zol returns their gaze to Aengus and then continues to speak.

“It would appear you have proven yourself worthy, and you have provided me with a “strong” reason for entering just based off how aggressive you seem to be about it.”

“The labyrinth?”

Zol points to the massive wall, “That… You and your fellow competitors will all be pitted against each other within to obtain the vial for yourselves, and there is only one.”

“I see, well it will be a good means to test my abilities as I obtain the vial along with no fear of someone else also obtaining one when I do…”

Aengus’s mind lingered on the thought of the fountain of immortality. It had to go, destroying a single vial wasn’t going to be good enough for him. NO ONE will be drinking from that thing if he can help it.

Aengus continued, “Don’t bother explaining this competition, it doesn’t matter to me. I’ll accept whatever comes with it. Just tell me what the goal is, and I’ll do my thing.”

“Very confident, aren’t we? You seem to believe this will be an easy task for you.”

“Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. But I doubt I’ll face anything or one that can stop me.”

“Perhaps, but you could be surprised. Overconfidence could be your downfall.”

“We will just have to wait and see, won’t we.”

“I suppose we will…”

“Aengus, Aengus Admere.”

“Well Aengus, are you ready to-”

Aengus lets out a loud cough, nodding to the knight again.

Zol lets out a sigh, “Just leave them, I would rather not spill unnecessary blood. Might give anyone who sees it the “Wrong” impression of the Labyrinth. I will see to it he is returned to his world.”

Aengus shrugs and tosses the sword to the ground, raising his right foot off of the knight’s chest and hovering it above him.

“Tell your daughter, “You're Welcome”.”

Aengus stomps down his foot again engulfed in orange flames. Fully knocking out the knight with another pulse of blue aura.

“I’ll leave you too it then. But first I need to quickly grab my wife, she seems to have run off somewhere.”

Zol tilts their head to the side, “Oh, you did shout someone’s name earlier, didn’t you. I will have you know she will also have to prove herself worthy.”

“She wouldn’t be competing as she is as fragile as a twig. She’ll just be spectating the event. You could think of her as more of a very “excited” tourist.”

Zol goes silent for a moment, “I suppose that is fine, but if she assists you in any way there WILL be consequences.”

“If nagging doesn’t count and…” Aengus looks back at the stands where she is absent from, “Running off on her own to go “Sightseeing” I think that won’t be an issue.”

“I see, well while you go and grab her, I’ll take this knight back to his home world.”
With that Aengus runs off looking for Cethlenn. It doesn’t take long for him to find her as she didn’t get far, she is examining the area around the bottom of the left side of the ornate structure. In particular, she was inspecting what appears to be some strange language written upon it. As she notices Aengus approaching, she calls to him.

“Aengus! Look at this, it some form of language I don’t understand!”

“It’s still weird hearing you say you don’t actually know something. You sure you’re not messing with me.” He chuckles.

“You know full well I am not. Now get over here!” she moves one of her arms in an “over here” motion.

Aengus goes up next to Cethlenn as she points to the mysterious language continuing, she begins to speak again.

“This language is unlike anything I have ever seen before! The lettering is so bizarre to me. But I feel with time I might be able to decipher and understand it. Taking bits and pieces from all the languages I already know from since the dawn of time in our world. There must be enough overlap in patterns or something of that sense from enough of them I can start piecing things together. I could be here hours, days maybe even weeks! It’s so exciting!”

Aengus wraps one of his arms around Cethlenn, “I’m very happy to hear you're enjoying yourself, but I got us a way to get inside and I’d imagine the further in we go. The more writing, also as I’m not leaving you out here on your own, I have to go in as duty calls as I have some important work to do.”

Cethlenn looks at Aengus with a grumpy expression.

“Fiiiine… There better be more inside!”

“It would be weird if it didn’t, let’s be fair here.”

After hearing the word “immortality” said Aengus stood up, his eyes wide. Far enough off to the side that in their discussion neither of the two in discussion noticed him. Cethlenn then stood up tugging on Aengus’s coat.

She whispered, “What’s the big idea, what happened to not being seen by anyone until “We know what we’re dealing with” huh?”.

Aengus gave a simple reply, “Work happened”.

Aengus then jumped down as Cethlenn just shrugged, Aengus landed onto the stadium floor and walked towards the two currently in a discussion. While this was happening, the knight was speaking.

“I would do anything, go to any length to save her! She is my daughter!”

Zol let out a chuckle, “Well, we shall see. Won’t we, how abou-”

“By cursing her?! Damning her to a fate worse than death!” Aengus interrupted Zol.

Zol and the knight quickly turned their gazes to Aengus as he approached them. While the knight was filled with fury due to Aengus’s statement. Zol, on the other hand, froze up, if they weren’t wearing a mask you would see their mouth hanging open. Their eyes were open wide, processing, who was this man, how did he get here? No one else was meant to find that rift. Did they arrive through other means? These thoughts were quickly stopped by the argument happening before them.

In particular, the knight currently screaming at Aengus “Cursing her! How dare you, I shall be performing a miracle saving her by blessing her with immor-!”

Aengus sent his fist straight into the face of the knight’s helmet, sending him to ground.

“Is it!? She will curse her own existence and long for death! She will despise you for damning her to an eternity of nothing, unable to end it! It may be long after you die, but that just shows how selfish you are forcing such a fate onto her for your own befit under the lie of “Fatherly Love”. Scum.”

“How dare you!”

The knight draws his sword and as he stands, he slashes it at Aengus, Aengus knew it was coming as he calmly swung out his arm out with a confident smirk on his face, his eyes closed. After hearing a small thud on the ground instead of a clang he opened his eyes. Raising his right arm, he discovered the stump that was his wrist and his hand that was on the floor.

“That was not what was supposed to happen.”

Aengus began to open and close his left hand, then waving his arm in seemingly random motions. Normally he would be able to summon a weapon using his powers, but something was wrong. As the knight was left speechless, having expected a torrent of blood, nothing came out of the stump. A similar state of confusion was present with Zol, who decided not to question things. They decided to let things play out, mostly out of morbid curiosity and to perhaps figure out the nature of the mysterious man by watching what happens.

Aengus looked back to the stands he had jumped down from.

“Hey, Cethlenn!”

Very quickly Aengus realized she wasn’t there anymore.

“Ughhh... non-existent goddamnit!”

The knight finally spoke after having taken a moment to process things, “W-what are you!?”

Aengus looked back at the knight and raised an eyebrow, “A concerned citizen who happens to be a walking corpse.”

Aengus kneels down and picks up his right hand, as he gets back up, he moves it to line back up with his wrist. As he is doing so the knight screams at him again.

“Monster!”

As the knight attempts to deliver a flurry of slashes Aengus quickly jumps back, letting out a howling scream of pain and the flesh around his hand and wrist melds and twists back together. As this is happening the knight charges at Aengus, this time aiming his blade true and going straight for Aengus’s heart. As the blade is thrusted towards Aengus, he quickly grabs the blade and with his newly re-connected hand and he barely manages to push it to his side.

Aengus then raises his right leg pulling it towards his chest preparing for a kick. As he does so his legs erupts into orange flames that surround it but doesn’t burn him or the knight. Aengus sends his foot straight into the stomach of the knight with a bright blue aura flickering through the knight’s body on impact and sending him to the ground again.

This time the knight is much more disorientated and struggles to lift himself back up for a moment. His body feeling as if his very essence was bounced around his body violently. Using this time Aengus held the sword by the blade similarly to the way you would with a baseball bat and swings it as such with the crossguard slamming into the knight’s helmet causing a massive dent and making the knights head fall back to the ground again. Leaving him in a semi-conscious state.
Deep in the woods, a woman ran, her breathing heavy, covered in sweat and seemingly on the verge of collapse. The wind rushing past her, as she ran, she passes blood splattered on the trees and forest floor, mutilated bodies spread about. The more she ran the more her legs would give out, she needed to keep running, she couldn’t stop now she was so close. Just a little further, she could see light in between the trees.

As she passed the threshold of a clearing in the woods her foot got caught on a root and she fell to the floor. Exhausted she struggled to try to stand up. As she raised her head on the ground her face was directly in front of the face of a massive monstrosity, an amalgamation of flesh and bone to the point of being unrecognizable to what it may have been originally. As it raised its hulking arm covered in massive teeth jutting out of its flesh a blade went straight through its head.

The monstrosity went limp, standing atop it was a tall man towering above the woman on the ground.

“Hello, dear.” He spoke while pulling the blade out.

The woman desperately tried to speak but she lacked the breath to convey words only spewing out mumbling nonsense. The man threw the blade to the side as it faded away in a short blaze of orange flame. He held his hand out to help her, as she took it the man raised her up and he spoke again.

“Cethlenn, what’s going on? By how out of breath you must have run at least forty meters.”

The woman whose eyes were seemingly always closed, Cethlenn nodded her head as she was trying to catch her breath. Aengus let out a sigh, tapping his foot as he waited for Cethlenn is regain her breath and calm down a bit. After a few minutes when Cethlenn recovered she began to speak.

“A rift opened up, to somewhere.”

“To where?” Aengus asked, confused by the statement.

“I don’t know!” she shouted excitedly.

“What do you mean “I don’t know” you know everything?” Aengus responds still unsure of what she meant.

“That’s the thing, I don’t! For once I don’t know something! For all I know it goes to another realm, world, dimension or alternate reality!”

Aengus stares blankly at Cathleen, in a combination of confusion and disbelievement. Cathleen grabs Aengus by the shoulders.

“You are taking me through it, I NEED to know what is on the other side of that rift!”

“I don’t think that’s a go-”

“This is not a discussion!”

Cathleen shakes Aengus as she interrupts him.

“Fine fine! I’ll take you through.”

Cathleen lets him go and brushes him off.

“Good! Now off we go!”

She grabs Aengus by the collar and starts dragging him off.

“A bit unnecessary here, could you just tell me where we are going?”

She continues to drag him off back into the woods, not even paying attention to what Aengus was saying.

Eventually, they reached the rift, Aengus could see the excitement exuding off Cethlenn as they looked towards it. Aengus didn’t have a clue how to interrupt this tear in time, space, reality? As he began to stare into the rift to see through it, perhaps find some sort of understanding to where it went, he was then suddenly pushed in by Cethlenn, who quickly followed him in.

As Aengus stumbles into the other side and begins to regain his balance, he rapidly looks around. Taking in the strange surroundings, marshes, swamps and the odd ruin littering the area with a massive stone structure looming in the distance under a moon up in a starry sky. As Cethlenn exited the rift her face lit up, visibly shaking with excitement and her eyes wide open for a moment. As she was about to run off to explore and take everything in Aengus grabbed her.

“Cethlenn, calm down. We have no idea where we are or how dangerous it is here.”

“It’s fine! You’re here to look after me, I NEED to see those ruins!”

Aengus just let out a sigh in response but does let out a small smirk. He’s not sure he’s ever seen Cethlenn this excited before.

Searching through the scattered ruins was mostly anticlimactic as they were just ordinary stone structures with only the design of the structure itself standing out. As such knowing, she wouldn’t be missing anything Cethlenn quickly decided for the two to go towards the massive structure in the distance. From where they were, they were uncertain on exactly what it was, at the very least it could be a large stone wall going around something like a city wall would.

As they were getting close Aengus started to hear voices ahead of them. He quickly moved behind some nearby ruins instructing Cethlenn to follow. But she wasn’t paying attention to him again and was still heading towards the structure barely able to contain her excitement. Aengus resorted to grabbing her and quickly pulling her behind the section of ruins he was using to hide.

“What was that fo-!” Cethlenn loudly spoke as Aengus cover her mouth.

Quietly Aengus responded, “I hear voices ahead, be quiet and stay behind me at least until we know what we’re dealing with.”

Cethlenn rolled her eyes and then nodded, the two started to quietly move towards the voices taking cover behind whatever they could as they went. As they neared the voices, they saw a set of stairs going downwards into a large square area, above it on the left and right were stone seating areas which were mostly in decay. At the other end against the massive wall was an observation point half destroyed and jutting out of a tall, ornate, rectangular structure that towered over what appeared to be a small stadium of sorts.
Labyrinth OCT Character Ref - Aengus

Name: Aengus “Balor” Admere

Alias/Nickname: Aengus

Species: Fomorian: They are basically demonic gods of chaotic aspects of nature. (Also Undead)

Age: Ancient, never bothered counting.

Height/Weight: 6’4”/195cm - 194lbs/88kg

Gender: Male

Reason for entering:

His real reason is to attempt to destroy the fountain of eternal life. His given reason is to test his abilities in the tournament and keep others from obtaining the vial as he is so strongly against immortal life.

Strengths:

  • A skilled warrior:

Aengus was born and raised as a warrior from ancient times, as a result, he is skilled with most types of weapons. As such he is more so a jack of all trades never mastering a certain weapon type. The only exception and his most skilled weapon type are glaives, but he refrains from using them due to events from his past.

  • Being undead:

As Aengus is essentially a walking corpse, he can take all types of damage and remain standing, things like being set on fire doesn’t bother him as he eventually is just a burning skeleton. By extension, he can’t be affected by poisons or things that affect him emotionally like charms or general magic as he lacks the hormones in his body that dictate things like that. While straight in his life, his un-life has made him asexual. This also extends to him not being able to be put to sleep, as he can’t physically sleep.

Abilities:

  • Necromancy:

Aengus is the Fomorian of Death as such he essentially the God of Necromancy in his world, but he never uses it to raise the dead or anything he considers “Evil Necromancers” do. He can use necromancy to enhance his own soul to surround certain parts of his body or objects being held to strike people with his soul looking like vibrant orange colored flames surrounding the body part/weapon dubbed “Soul Brawling”. Doing so does no physical damage as it is striking someone’s souls directly which causes disorientation as the person’s soul is bounced around their body. He also uses necromancy to manipulate his flesh allowing him to restore damage to his body, but this takes up large amounts of energy and while healing he can feel, due to not feeling in so long he is very sensitive, so it is a horrifically painful experience.

  • Irish Mythology Origins:

As Aengus is based heavily off Irish Mythology, he considers some of the most bizarre and crazy things mundane. Always having bizarre stories to compare to chaotic situations which seem even more ridiculous. For example, “Girl problems huh? Yea I knew a guy with a similar issue. Last I heard he jumped into a lake and turned into a fish. To be fair it’s what anyone would have done in his situation.” But it also means he can do weird and bizarre things which are mundane things to him and he believes it's something anyone “normal person” can do. For example, picking up boulder with ease using only one hand, or casually jumping great heights. The reason for this is the mentality gained from being so ancient, it’s his perception of reality which allows him to manipulate the world in such a way. But as a result, he can’t affect others in such a way directly, so he couldn’t punch someone with the same strength required to pick up a boulder with one hand. But it doesn't mean he can't just hit someone with a thrown boulder instead.

Weaknesses:

  • Overconfident:

Aengus is a show-off plain and simple, due to his nature the only way he can find a thrill in battle due to his un-life is by going over the top and stylish. Which can result in him making mistakes or taken advantage of him not taking things serious enough.

  • Being undead:

While being undead has its strengths there are more weaknesses, he can’t feel so if he is struck by surprise he mightn't even notice. This can lead to his body suffering damage he doesn’t notice whether from an attack or overexerting his body, like a damaged muscle which could give way at any moment possibly resulting in limbs falling off. He can’t eat, drink or sleep either but those don’t bother him that much. His body is also weaker, in general, resulting in the possibility of losing body parts much higher.

  • Running out of magical energy:

Aengus’s body runs on magical energy due to being undead, if he runs out, he will collapse and essentially be in a coma and become an ordinary corpse until enough energy is restored but if this were to happen that would be a KO in the tournament. As such if he uses his abilities, he will drain magical energy and the more power he puts into his abilities the quicker it drains. Making him like an endurance run, of trying to outlast him or force/trick him into using his abilities to drain his energy faster. The easiest way to put this is that if he was in an RPG his Health and Mana bars are the same bar.

  • Gullible:

Due to his nature Aengus usually just goes with the flow, but if someone isn't being extremely obviously trying to trick him he won't do anything to avoid it as long as he isn't being told to attack/harm someone else. As he would ask for their side of the story or refuse to harm a innocent. But that doesn't mean he won't fall for traps or tricks that directly harm him like being kicked down a pit, or even suddenly being stabbed in the neck mid-conversation.

  • Healing Process:

Depending on the severity of his injuries it can be quick or take a minute or two to restore damage to his body. What is certain as when he is healing he is defenseless and the process is the only time he can feel so it is extremely painful meaning so he has to try and focus through the pain taking his full attention. This also results in Aengus letting out a howling scream in pain meaning it is extermely difficult to hide when doing so.

  • Fragile Body:

As at the end of the day Aengus is a walking corpse his body will never be in good shape physically in terms of how it is more vunerable to damage from attacks.

Personality:

Aengus is a very happy guy considering he is a walking, talking corpse. As despite lacking the most basic mortal joys like being able to feel, taste or even sleep Aengus is never bothered by it. As mentioned, before he is very overconfident due to his nature as a Fomorian resulting in him tending to be more stylish and extravagant. Outside of combat while he does like to show off, for the most part, he is very calm and goes with the flow. As no matter whatever crazy or unexpected things, he may see it will never faze him. As from his past it is what he considers to be mundane. A darker side of Aengus is the fact is he is willing to do anything for what he considers to be for the betterment of all. For example, if put into a situation where he had to choose between the life of one over many and there wasn’t an alternative, he would kill that one person without hesitation or remorse.

As mentioned before with him fighting fair as in at equal level to his opponents he considers dirty trick as fair game in combat in his eyes. In rare cases, he could go all out but this is only if the individual was a horrible enough person or if things get serious enough. He only considers something serious if it’s something that would cause harm to others or his wife in a severe way and wouldn’t be easy to stop or avoid it. Aengus is also the type of individual that likes to “Help” people grow as individuals. This usually involves him pointing out their flaws to their face, this usually doesn’t end well.

History:

Aengus is essentially the receptionist of the afterlife managing what would be considered the waiting room. Looking after each soul that comes through while they are awaiting their judgment. As it is a 24/7 job, he has a secondary body which lacks his full power that looks after things in the mortal realm trying to ensure the dead are properly buried and souls to pass on. Usually going after necromancers who he considered “Lost their way” by trapping souls and or creating undead.

As a result, after discovering the existence of the Labyrinth he believes it is his duty to keep anyone from obtaining immortal life. Sending out his secondary body to deal with it and attempting to ensure no one will ever drink from the fountain ever again. Also, despite being essentially a demonic god and the second oldest surviving god he is viewed mainly has a joke by his fellow gods because he never bothered trying to assert dominance or demonstrate his actual true ability, so they assume he is just a joke that sits at a desk all day and can’t do anything. As a result, having to deal with their teasing and mocking regularly.

Likes:

Conversing, tea, “fair fights”, enthusiastic walks, kind individuals, his wife Cethlenn.

Dislikes:

Evil necromancers, dragons, monstrous individuals, magic healers, his body getting severely damaged.
