Thank You for Your Feedback on Eclipse!

Last week, we announced the Beta launch of DeviantArt Eclipse — a completely redesigned version of DeviantArt that puts more emphasis on artists and their art. As a Beta release, Eclipse is still under development and only available to a small portion of the DeviantArt community. We use the Beta release to gather feedback that allows us to closely analyze deviant engagement and sentiment.

Over 4,000 deviants have already tried Eclipse and many have shared their invaluable and much-appreciated feedback. We’ve received nearly 1,700 individual Eclipse feedback reports — including 407 bug reports, 532 feature requests, and 748 pieces of general commentary. Our team has read through and triaged over 60% of these reports and has a goal of completing all of them in the coming week. Thank you to every deviant who has taken the time to share feedback. Whether you’re someone who provided a few words or several paragraphs of candid response, we appreciate the passion you have for helping us ensure Eclipse will meet the needs of our diverse community.

This Is Just the Beginning of Eclipse

As with most Beta releases, we launched Eclipse knowing there were bugs and highlighted a handful of the most obvious in our release journal. We wanted to release sooner than later so we can begin this journey together – gathering feedback and insights and applying it into our development, fixes, and improvements. Plus, as Beta Testers, this is what you signed up for! We need your deviant-expertise to help identify bugs everything from baby bugs to elusive, exotic bugs.

Based on feedback, it’s clear there are certain areas of Eclipse that are leaps and bounds ahead of the “green site.” It’s also clear there are some things that need to be improved. We expected this and continue to welcome your feedback — the good and the bad. We’re in this together and want to hear from deviants every step of the way.

We're Exploring More Ways To Customize Your Profile

Eclipse provides new ways to personalize your Profile, including the ability to select Header Art for your page, linking to your social media platforms, and stating your commission status. However, with the removal of Custom Box, we heard, loud and clear, that deviants want more options to display content. We’re also in the process of exploring other ways you can customize your Profile. We’ll be sharing tips and varied examples of ways you can really customize Profiles. In the meantime, here’s one example of how @katy-l-wood is testing Eclipse’s current abilities to enhance her Profile.
Many deviants asked for the ability to showcase a single deviation on your profile. This is something we are already working on. We’d also like to clarify that, for the foreseeable future, Custom Boxes within Groups will remain as they are. Groups will eventually be redesigned with Eclipse in mind, but that process won’t be complete for many months. We’ll provide advance notice about any removal of Custom Boxes in Groups.

Addressing Your Other Top Concerns

The new Feedback allows easy viewability of your most recent and unread notifications; however, we’ve seen concerns about Feedback needing improvement as a whole. For example, deviants report it’s cumbersome to remove notifications and it’s hard to remove notifications in bulk. We’ll be making the “remove” button more accessible so that you can one-click remove (or one-click save) just as you could on the “green site.” We’re still reviewing the experience of mass removing feedback and hope to have updates soon.We are currently working on issues regarding Header Art and avatars – specifically, their size and quality. Icon codes and plz accounts will be coming soon to Eclipse. :iconlaplz:The new text editor makes it easy to write Literature, with the option to add formatting and illustrations to your work. That said, the Literature experience in Eclipse is still a work in progress. As we mentioned in the Beta journal, using Literature and journal thumbnails is not yet finished. Literature thumbnails in the sidebar (under “More Like This”) are also not yet finished.Improving the display of Literature thumbnails is something our Product and UX teams are already actively working on improving.Having a “Show More” link on deviation descriptions and comments allows for a cleaner viewing experience; however, based on feedback, we've removed "Show More" from deviation descriptions and comments. While search in Gallery, Favourites, and Journals didn’t make it into the Beta version of Eclipse, it’s our aim to bring this functionality to Eclipse.Several deviants brought up that the ability to include thumbs by pasting a URL (or thumb code) is not currently possible. We mentioned this in the original announcement, but we want to reiterate this is not working as intended and will be implemented in the future.

Of course, this isn’t a complete list. It represents our first step at addressing some of your top concerns and we’ll be sharing more responses and updates — including bug fixes — in the weeks ahead.

Keep it Coming!

In the release process, things are constantly evolving as we gain insights and implement updates. Please keep in mind these updates can take time to get used to. As you continue to explore Eclipse, share your thoughts and concerns through the Eclipse overall feedback or bug report/feature request forms. While we encourage general discussion in the journal comments, using the official form allows us to triage and act on feedback in a quicker, more manageable way.

We also want to give a shout-out to the amazing deviants who’ve produced really thorough Eclipse reviews:

Again, thank you to everyone! With your feedback, we’ve filed numerous bugs and our developers are working on them continually.

Using HTML on deviantART

Hello!

Hello and welcome to my little html tutorial. I've been working with html codes for a couple of years and I'm going to teach you what I know about using some basic html on deviantART. This won't make you a html expert or something and I'm not an expert myself but it will give just enough knowledge to make your journals, comments, news articles and other neat and lovely looking. :)
deviantART actually has FAQs about html but I still wanted to do this because they look a bit unorganized, in my opinion. Also, why would you want to look for those FAQs when you can just open this news article where you have everything in one place? :dummy:
You may already know some of these, but I hope you'll find at least something helpful in this news article.

Some basic html

Regarding my art and writing. And it could be as bad as it sounds!

Being sick with the flu for the last month has given me time to think and review everything I've created in life so far.

Conclusion: I love my writing and art and I love my life in the real world. Things are simple, loving, and beautiful here. I wish I could just show everyone I know and love online my real life, somehow!

But I don't like my online presence and feel it misrepresents me. Part of it is that my art and literature simply doesn't display well in the digital format, and it's probably the way I've been using it since my blind start at this whole arts marketing and community thing. Part of it is my branding, it's sparkly which is nice, but also lacks the attention-grabbing strength it's going to need for me to be able to offer anything of value to others. You can't tell at a glance who I am or what my work is offering. I'm easy to overlook and rather non-professional online, which isn't at all what I'm like IRL! Congruency matters. I think people can feel it when something's off, and that prevents me finding my herd of readers and art appreciators.

And that's definitely not a dig at you! I consider you my friend, and appreciate all you've given me, and I'm so glad you've found me here. My overhaul is definitely about my personal vibration and presence online, rather than any kind of unhappiness with the relationships I've formed here on dA.

So... on to the egg cracking. I'm going to have to wipe my slate clean and start from scratch to get the results I'm seeking. I'll do everything differently, from names for myself and my series, to how I use my art. And I'm going to have to remove Wildheart from publication to get it done right. I already have a palace in the sky (that's Wildheart) so now I have to build the foundations up to meet it. My portfolio will retain all of my art and writing, so there's no need to worry I'll be losing value or that I'm being too hard on myself. That's not the sort of eggs unicorns crack :D

So, except for DeviantArt, everything online must go! (Some things will only be renamed, like my Instagram) I want at least one place to document my whole journey and dA is the site I use most, and also the community I belong to so it's the logical keeper. However Wildheart is going to have to come down here, too. It's time for a new edition, an agent or a marketing strategy, and a better cover! I realize it's going to take years, so I wanted to give you a heads up before I remove my book from Kindle in case you're planning to buy it... so you don't miss out for however long it takes me to hit my reset.

I've learned my recipe. I'm gonna go crack my unicorn eggs to make a wonderfully delicious unicorn cake. Wish me luck on my magical journey! I'll be sure to share what I learn along the way ;-)

Hey there! I'm Stephanie, my pen name is Esseld, and I'll answer to either name :-) "Esseld" means "beauty" and that's what I seek to share through my writing and art. It is an Irish derivative of the name "Isolt," who is traditionally a capable princess-herbalist featured in some pretty old French Medieval Romances. So yeah, I love, I herb, and I unicorn :D

I'm an author, artist, Reiki master-teacher, parent, wife and horsewoman. I've been writing and drawing for a little over 22 years.

My favourite topic is unicorns. I love everything about their beauty, legends, spirituality, and how they're woven through fantasy, not to mention our entire history. I create on birds, too, and since birds are linked to plants I'm becoming more interested in botanical art. I also create social commentary. I use fantasy, fairy tale and monster elements to communicate human experience with my readers and viewers.

I'm primarily a fantasy novelist. My current project is "The Wildheart Chronicles." They are written for adult fantasy readers who like unicorns, positive spirituality, intense adventure, and nature. The unicorns in my books are as fierce and intelligent as they are just and good. Read book one, Wildheart, right here in my gallery.

I also write spiritual guidebooks and am working on a couple of oracle decks. I'm revising and expanding the first of my guidebooks, "Unicorn Connection," this year. You can follow my progress on the "Unicorn Oracle" here in my gallery. All also be announcing the completed version of Unicorn Connection here.

Artwise, most of my creations are pen and pencil drawings. Sometimes I use references captured on my phone, but the majority of my work is create freehand, spontaneously, sometimes in trance. I dabble with watercolour, pastel, acrylic and digital from time to time, producing different styles in each medium. I love to sculpt, but rarely have the time given my other artistic and family commitments. I love my family, so I don't mind that they keep me so busy! They inspire and uplift me so much.

So, welcome to my gallery! Feel free to message and comment. I don't bite, but I do love meeting other fantasy and nature enthusiasts. I hope you enjoy your visit, and thanks so much for reading my bio :-)

WIP Unicorn in the Storybook Garden 1
My painting Unicorn Flower Shower was the start of something.
Unicorn Flower Shower by Unicorn-Wizard-Steph
I wanted to play with that some more. Visit different parts of the sacred garden of light within, spend time with the different unicorns there, and especially, get better at painting the flowers! Healing from my past could take a lifetime, but suddenly I no longer mind. The rain of fertility is soothing and the beauty that arises makes the effort of this healing journey worth it.

So here, together, are a pen and ink drawing, doubling as a reference, and a new painting in it's early stages. Once I had my unicorn marked out with the paint, I realised the tone of the image is like an old storybook picture, so I decided this is flower rain in the storybook garden, and found my title. The unicorn's pose shows her (and thus my) appreciation of all the blessings that have come together to help me find peace. Anyone who's suffered abuse and subsequently found that unlikely blessing of peace knows what a miracle it is!
