Twitter does have a point with Shantae and Daisy about when you reference cultural clothing versus orientalism. This is just a mockup I threw together, I referenced real outfits, but there could be so much better.

On the one hand, an outfit this detailed would be a pain to animate in 2D, and borderline wasteful for the fairly small resolution of Shantae’s sprite in Half-Genie Hero & Seven Sirens.

On the OTHER hand, this would look great for the kind of “splash art” you see on game characters like the Amano-era Final Fantasy casts… I especially like the new skirt & headdress a lot; I think if this design were to be downsized to fit into a Shantae game, those would be the details to really focus on & exaggerate
