I was wondering for a long time why do you always seem to put short-sleeves on your redesign of the zelda characters? It may seem like a inconspicuous (and stupid) question but since I'm really interested in character design, it made me wonder if you had a special reason for this. For example do you find more esthetic? Do they have a special signification in Hyrule? Is it because of the climate of Hyrule? Because when you look at the images you took as inspiration they all have long-sleeves and even canonical SS Zelda's outfit has long sleeves.

Personally I prefer the canonical outfit of Zelda when looking solely at the sleeves, but that is just my taste :) Don't get me wrong I really like your interpretation of Hylia's casual outfit, it's just that short-sleeves make me think of T-Shirts and not of something people in a medieval-ish setting would wear (although I do believe that in Zelda's SS design the type of sleeve she has are also quite recent, but I think they are less glaringly modern).

She isn't the only whom I have noticed to have short-sleeves when their original counterpart didn't. For example, Saria in canon had longer, darker-colored, sleeves, Young Zelda from OoT had sleeves too and Urbosa, who didn't have sleeves at all in canon, had some in Conquest.

You're probably thinking that it's a dumb thing to get fixated on but I'm really curious on the reason behind this design choice.

Your work is one of my personal favorite and one of the few I'm impatient to see more of! So thank you for everything your doing :D

PS: One of my favorite things to do is to find parallels in the canon Zelda games and Conquest, like what outfit, pattern, setting, character or game inspired and went into the creation of each faction. So I'm curious if there will be more sketch dump like this one and the guardians were you explain what inspired you to design something a certain way. I personally really like stuff like that.

I think it's just a case of short sleeves more often than not winning the battle of looking aesthetically better when I'm putting an outfit together. I do have quite a few outfits with long sleeves, including Hylia's white gown:…
Some other examples of outfits with long sleeves include Liyer, Lana (all of the Wizzrobes really), Ruto's Sage outfit, most of the Labrynna outfits.
There's also quite a few outfits with no sleeves at all. Some examples are the fourth Princess Zelda, most of the Zora outfits lack them, and Yaraxonal's outfit is sleeveless.

As far as historical accuracy short sleeves were not uncommon, even in canon Zelda Link's tunics is based on a common design. People tended to wear something underneath though, usually for protection. Quite a few of Princess Zelda's outfits in canon have short sleeves (ALTTP, Wind Waker, and OoT stand out), and only the design from OoT has her wearing an underdress.

Ok first. Amazing work as always, the fact that you take the time to look for these references is really cool.

A very interesting (and slightly terrifying) character.
