Republic of Florence ~ Grunge Flag (1260 - 1531)

The Republic of Florence (Italian: Repubblica Fiorentina) was a medieval and early modern state centred on the city of Florence in Italy. It was founded following the Florentine rebellion against the Margraviate of Tuscany in 1115. The Medici family gained power in 1434 but was ousted in 1494, then restored in 1512 and driven out again in 1527. The republic was finally abolished in 1531 when the Medici returned and pope Clement VII made Alessandro de’ Medici ‘Duke of the Florentine Republic’, effectively creating a hereditary monarchy centred around the Medici family.

The flag and coat of arms of the Florentine Republic consisted of a red fleur-de-lis on a white field. The design dates back to the times of the conflict between the Guelphs and Ghibellines, the Italian factions supporting respectively the pope and the Holy Roman emperor during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The Ghibellines of Florence used a white fleur-de-lis on a red field until they were ousted by the Guelphs in the mid thirteenth century. The colours were subsequently inverted.

Ohymy! I love how it's a Flur-de-lys is the focal point and then it's "beautified" by ivy pieces and blooms.

Indeed it is. It's an elegant, yet strong and stead fast symbol.
