I've been looking forward to this season! even though I'm really sad some great Anime ended now, there were a lot of beautiful things in the guide. lots of come backs.
so what else can I do but start off about an old favorite:
Hunter X Hunter (Sequel)
for starters, the prologue was really good. around the 2nd exam, they trew in the question just what it means to be a hunter and it was never answered. this gives a short sharp description which'll explain a lot on ahead. I just hope they won't make the mistake of repeating it for the next 12 episodes.
the episode started of very fast. it summed up at least 4 episode in 1, but they still showed it off well.
I personally think that the sequel portraits Mito-san better as the mother who doesn't want to lose her son like she lost her brother. no overemotional poeha, no explanations. it's enough, no mom wants to see her kid leave like that.
It's a bit sad that they let gon and leorio meet on board. the few episodes in the old series gave a good look on leorio, who is not easily likable, so he's having a handicap like this for the new viewers.
as for Kurapika..... he was SO much more arrogant then in the original series. not only that, but he was melodramatic. if you don't want to tell your story, don't tell it. but don't go and mention that it's a deep dark secret. and even if he had to tell, he could have made up a lie in the first place..
but on the other hand, I guess it's in Kurapika's character to be blunt and too honest. that side of him is appealing. and since he starts of as more of a meany, he can grow more.
but because Kurapika goes through a change at some point, I prefer the version where he starts of as a nice person. it'd make him more likable.
what I dislike most about this new Karapika is that they changed his eye color, though. his eyes were so fitting as they were and this just doesn't ontrast with the red eyes.
I have to say that the voice actor changes wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm very sad Kaida won't do Kurapika anymore, but the 3 I heard until now are really good.
I think it would be a difficult series to follow for new watchers, so I do advice them to first watch the original series. but the sequal is cool and exciting for about anyone to see.
one last thing, though. for an anime like Hunter x Hunter, the ending song was REALLY bad. I can get that they do that with Death Note, but for the first season of hxH, it doesn't fit. (it might have in for instance the spider or chimera ant plot)

next up is
as I was looking forward to it, cuz it looked pretty, I really have just one thing to say about it:
it's plain GENERIC!!
I think the staff was just thinking 'okay, how can we put as many moe points in 1 character?'
I can really only describe this as a list of things:
- abnormal long hair and strange color pallete.
- plain hair
- lives alone (until now, since she moves in with him)
- 0 hormones
- 100% pheromones (to the characters, not the watchers)
- friendly, well behaved, no character dept.
rivaling girl character:
- childhood friend
- brings him breakfast
- glasses moe
- braids moe
- large chest
- hidden yandere
- has loved him forever without him noticing
- first appearence: naked
- first word: pervert
- wears his shirt (where did he get the underwear from? helives alone)
- rival appears
- first coversation: chest size
- second conversation: the boy is mine. boy does not notice.
- rival wins
- girl character gets lost
- girl character fails at cleaning the house.
- female villain appears.
....that was a halve an hour wasted on genericness

one little piece of advice for anyone who's feeling like ever making an anime: you don't introduce like 20 character in a 20 minute long battle scene.
after an entire episode, I don't have a CLUE who is who or even who is on which team! I'm sure they might all be great characters, but I didn't see anything more then their flashy hair, their special moves and a random robot die in the middle of it all.
If you want to make something like this, please just spend your time on a versus game? cuz that's all it really is. a versus game with a halvebaked story mode of a sad one sided love and a failed shinsen gumi in a school theme.

I absolutely loved the first series, so little can go wrong in the second, I suppose. Though i always had the feeling season 1 was very complete. the start of the second season gave me a bit of an 'nothing was really accomplished' type of feeling.
but well, the story had little plot to start with, so it's a fun comedy to just sit back at and watch on a free evening.
I love the characters with all their weird fetishes and they're like a big 'I hate you! let's go out on saturdays! ,>//<,' type of family

Phi Brain: Kami No Puzzle
Not a series that makes me think ; wow! this is so cool!' right away, but it has potentials.
Personally, I always like anime about things you'd usually not think off. like train stations, stones...
and this time: Puzzles!
it's clearly a mystery series, slightly thrilling, but not scary and romance as a side dish.
The maincharacter might be a bit cocky and apethatic, but he seems to have his heart on the right place. he's incredibly smart too, but with place for growth.
the female character is a bit irrational and annoying, but when she calms down, she's reasonable.
the secondary male character might be the most interesting up until now. hes a bit floaty, but kind, gentle and not scared for advanture.
I might be biased, because I'm a big fan of Akira Ishida, but the voice of the commisioner wasn't deformed enough to hide that it was actually the secondary male character.
The badguy didn't show himself yet, but he seems to look a lot like a very emo byakuran (katekyo hitman reborn) in the intro clip.
S;ow start, but definitly deserves a chance for the first few episodes!

for the people who have also read my review on Maji De Watashi Ni Koi Shinasai, this is a VERY good example to be compared to.
just as KoiShin, there's a huge amount of characters and the first episode is basically one big bttle schene.
But KyouSen pulls it off REALLY well.
the intro shows that they live in a serious situation, they're not fighting as some kind of sports day school activity.
Before the mainpoint of the episode, the battle starts, you first get a good look on the characters, talking to the teacher. some show off very well what kind of person they are and bonds are shown aswell.
what mostly cought my eyes is that there are also non-stereo type characters. they're not all gorgeous beauties with big boobs and random glitters.
as for the stereotype characters, it's a good thing that they aswell are not just pretty hair, big eyes and a weapon. the battle system allows them to surpass it, by posing off as for example 'summoner', 'mage', 'strategist' and 'gambler'. it gives an extra dimension of dept which appeals off well.
and the major plus point was mostly: they all aimed for the same 1 target. it didn't force you to try and figure out who was on which side again and fore-came a LOT of confusions. you could just focus on getting to know the characters.
I'm very curious to the battle system, because not much was explained about it yet it seems quite complex and different for everyone.
a little point is perhaps that they could have pushed the comedy a bit further. I noticed I lost track from time to time, because speeches were a bit of a drag. an increased amount of gag would have bettered it.
as for the maincharacter, I believe he might have shown up a bit too little.
the start gave a slight teaser view on him, (enough for me to gamble 'its fukuyama jun, isn't it?' and I was right!!) but you almost start to forget about him through the episode.
he showed off very strong at the end, though. he is definitely not a stereo-type. in fact, he's the type of character you'd usually portrait as the silly perverted sidekick.
he's rather aloof and happy go lucky. he's plain through weird, to be honest. but he's passionate and the class seemed to know he had the skills to back up on his wackiness.
the girl character is pretty much left into the dark. up until now, she really doesn't have any connection to the story. but I suppose it'll come.
it seems though... that even though the start made me think 'those are a lot of characters to introduce in one'.....that wasn't even halve of what the ending part showed.

Kimi to Boku
my very first impression was ..... 'lol, wut!? it's a guy!!??'
so yes, I found myself the implying shonen ai of the season~
it's really cute and funny. it's not that a lot happens, it's jusrt your average 'normal' kind of anime.
but it somehow feels nostalgic and heartwarming, like the start of your 3rd year in middleschool with the familiar faces.
nothing much is said, but there are still the small hints of the 4 boys liking each other.
it mostly reminds me to the interrelation of Rikkaidai from prince of tennis. the characters are a lot like yukimura, sanada, niou and yagyuu.
it's a simple anime with a good sense of comedy and just feels really sweet.
also, the cats you get to see from time to time are a cute equivalent and really adorable.
comparable to: Prince of Tennis (Rikkai), Ouran highschool hostclub, honey & clover
a very sweet, simple anime about taking pictures, everyday life and friendship.
it's cute and warm, but somehow makes me feel a bit sad.
comparable to: Black Rock Shooter, Gakuen Alice, K-on
a very beautiful anime about friendship. again, with an unusual theme.
I love the type of friendship where someone takes it up for the person who isn't very popular in class. I think it's something every child that goes to school can learn from.
The anime shows well that after every face could be a story that you might not think would actually fit with that person when meets the eyes.
I'm really excited about seeing more of how this game (Karuta) works. the way the male character played it was really cool and it seems like a game I'd like, since i like memorizing stuff.
